Hi My pug just had puppies a few days ago, so I just went through this..Usually you can tell after about 30 days, but sometimes takes longer. She shouldn't really be slow moving quite yet. I didn't know my girl was with puppies (for sure) till about 35 days. Every dog is differant, but swollen nipples is a sign as is losing the hair around them.
You say she went in heat...but did you breed her, or think something did? False pregnancy could be it, if you are pretty sure she didn't get bred. My dogs try to tell me. They get really personable. In my face, wanting to sit in my lap more often, etc. You should be able to palpate her by now. I don't know about large breeds, but with my schnauzers I can lay them on their sides, and start at the bottom of the ribs and work down massageing with your hand on both sides. You should be able to feel something about the size of a golf ball, well with a large breed maybe a tennis ball? Not sure on that one, but my question is did you breed her? And if money is tight I hate to think what you have ahead of yourself....My vet just told me most of the time mastiffs just go in for C-Sections, they don't even let them go into labor, so I can't imagine what you have coming. And being a college studen are you going to have enough time to take care of the pups? Not to sound harsh, but you might need to think if this is the right thing for you. Take it from me....it's a hard job! Good luck anyhow!
Faye, I think I read on another post that it was an accident. he also has an English Mastiff that got to the bullmastiff when she was in heat. And if my mind is correct the male is not 2 yet and the female is like 6.
But to hawaiianstyle, you really need to take her to the vet if at all possible. Because you don't want to risk your dogs life. I'm sure you could find somewhere that could start you up an account. Good luck with whatever you do.
You are correct Paige. This is the second thread on this subject from this member. I have also deleted a couple of post made by Hawaiianstyle that had some of the worst obscene lauguage that I have ever seen on this forum. Maybe one thing has nothing to do with the other, but just a caution.
