Hi, I just read the traffic from your minibulldog discussion about a month ago. I really wish I could have been apart of it. I just recently purchased a mini bulldog myself and I absolutely love her. As a "regular" English Bulldog owner as well, I can tell you that although some might be false, there are plenty out there that are the real deal.
Well this is actually a bad topic for many people because sometimes it is a scam and they mix English with French Bulldogs or Pugs. However the good ones are just breeding a below average sized bulldog with another.
Hi. The argument that took place was because one of our fellow bulldog owners was trying to point out that the popularity of this breed is being exploited by people who want to make a fast buck by creating these new bulldogs. The point was just that although they may be smaller, when it comes down to it, they are still just bulldogs. That is true. My boy is over fifty pounds at eight months, so he's no mini but he's definitely not obese like some other bullies tend to be. I love him dearly, he is my little angel and he gets prettier every day. I'm glad you saw that post because it is nice to know that other people have first hand knowledge of these mini bullies. Yes, they do exist! About the bulldog/pug/frenchie mixes.... I can't imagine being able to pass one off as a purebred. Wouldn't the difference be obvious?
Gerty I am glad that you see that I wasn't saying your dog is any less of a bulldog than mine or anyone elses. Mini bully's are a hot subject for me I suppose. I just hate to see the breed taken advantage of in various ways, only to increase peoples profits. And again no offence Gerty but your Bully is far from a mini if he is pushing 50lbs at 8 mo's. He is defenitely comparable in size to the norm.
So the only thing left to ask is WHERE OH WHERE are all the bully Pics??? So lets see everyones.
i posted a response and for a second it was there, and then it wasn't anymore. i'll try to remember what i wrote the first time and hopefully it won't post twice.
hi ash. my little guy is not so little after all. i'm a first time bulldog owner and was asking some breeders about what to expect. they said he will bulk up for the next 10 months or so reaching his full grown size at about 18 months. one person said he can still put on another 10 to 15 pounds for the next few years after that. i hope not. on the akc website the breed standard is listed at 40 to 50 pounds full grown. most bulldogs that i know about are a lot bigger than that, so i'm thinking that the minis are actually closer to what the standard is supposed to be.
minis were a hot topic in that thread but let me tell ya, now that i've had a bulldog for six months or so i can see how trendy this breed is. when i take mine out for walks people point at him and ooh and aah. i can see now how the bulldog hype is causing crooked breeders to pop up everywhere. i'm hearing stories left and right about sick bulldogs being passed off to innocent people.
i love my dog and would not give him up for anything. when i got him, i knew nothing about bullies and my friend just had this little boy puppy that i fell in love with. knowing what i know now, in hindsight i may have looked at a different breed. i feel bad for this breed and the way it is being exploited. but every year it is something new. it used to be cocker spaniels. remember how oprah had them and everybody either had one or wanted one. next year it'll be something else.
