not only is that a horrible thought that this could happen it is very true. it is very hard to screen people properly though. there are many people who can fool you and you just never know. i would before placing an animal in any new home make a home visit. check on the conditions of their existing pets, do they seem healthy and happy. not nervous around their owner. this could give you more insight into a person than just a telephone interview. even check vet references. if the person is not willing to cooperate on these matters it probably wouldn't be a good idea to give your pet to this person.
hey Scout, i use to work at an animal shelter, as a volunteer.... this place was the pitts, i started a lot of chit, when i started working there...i saw things that made me sick to my stomach ...i got attached to lots of the animals, and everytime they found a home, you don't think i asked 100's of question's, to make sure they fit the profile...well obviously this place didn't care...These poor pets were past out everywhere one guy keep coming backing and calling to check if we had anymore pits...i thought that was strange, but everyone else didn't care as long has they got a paycheck...well i started doing a lil investigation on my own...come to find this moron was using them for junk yard dogs...well that made me MAD especially when i saw my lil buddy that i was so concern about and was ready to adopt, chain under a school bus in this junk yard...well there was nothing i can do...unless i can proof there was some kind of abuse ....they asked the owner to put a longer chain and make sure he has water time to time...and swore to me they would follow up on him...and i was told to stay away from the premises...you see there was this puppy i wanted and was in the process of looking for a place so i can take him...well this worker of ours took it upon himself and gave him to this.............nevermind(bittin my tongue here)..................well 3 wks later they went back cuz there was a complaint about a bunch of dogs growling one night at 2 am ...we got a call they found 4 dogs DIED and abanded and two pits left to die from a dog fight at this warehouse...a friend told me not to go....wish i never did.........what i found was no sight for eyes...i have to end this now ..........SORRY FOLKS...........I DON'T THINK I CAN CONTINUE.....I THINK YOU GET THE PIC... in loving memory of Spanky....... sorry boy, i was a minute to late
:( Bogie Yeah, that's why our group is VERY picky about who we adopt to. People get cranky with us because they feel we ask too many questions and our process is ridiculous for "just a dog". But that's fine because a person that feels that way doesn't need one of our dogs. We choose only the best homes and scrutinize each applicant carefully. If they are bad pet owners, we will sniff them out. We had a woman get really mad at us and tell us off because we wanted to know why her other dog wasn't fixed. Too bad for her. LOL. We love these dogs and only want to make sure they get the best home that they deserve.
Mrama it's nice to know there are still good people in this world and can feel the pain of other's....i guess you have to be an animal lover to feel it...when i told this story to some their reaction was gee it's only a dog, get over it, i hope when i died you feel the same for me....i thought that was heartless, and then again these people never had pets in there lives............and their kids are off to boarding school.........GO FIGURE
Oh Bogie..my dog is my child. I couldn't love her more if she were a human I'd given birth to. I know that seems strange to some people, but I've always gotten along better with animals than people. Growing up, we lived in a rural area and I only had my dog and cats to keep my company and while the few people around me weren't very nice, my pets gave me unconditional love..so I guess that's why I trust animals over people. It's kinda funny I guess that I can watch movies where many people die but will burst into tears if a dog is killed. (still cry everytime I see Turner and Hooch:) LOL. I'm a freak.
bogie i am sorry if i offende you. i was just trying to help people make sure this didn't happen to their pets by making a few more suggestions to help them find a good home. i am sorry about spanky. we try our best but people can be very sneaky and it is not always easy to smell the phonies. mrama your not a freak. i can't watch any animal movies without crying also. even the animal cartoons. my babies are my life and to see other animals get hurt in a movie i can't stand it. it took me a long time to even be able to watch the discovery channel with the wild animals. i always cried to the gazelles to run faster so they wouldn't be eaten. i ahve come along way. but not long enough.
aweee thank you everyone, and scout no need to apologize i didn't feel offended at all...i'll tell ya what really offended me...was this morn when i logged on to this site, after my niece came running to me and crying her eyes out from a clip of a video she watched in here............today the kids here have no school/snowday....usually in a case like that my niece's and nephews stay here until their mom/my sis comes home from work....i make them breakfast, while i'm cleaning up, one will watch tv and the other hops on the puter, and loves this site, she loves reading the discussion forum, and looking at all the animals, she wants to be a vets when she gets older(so she says LOL) but she wasn't prepared for what she was about to witness...........she's walking around like a zombie, saying i hate people....i just got done calming her down i told her....never hate, it's a strong word. if you can find it in your heart to just feel sorry for them, because most aren't playing with a full deck, another words they only have half of brain.....so now this site is off limits to her and her brother....i don't personally think this site is safe for any children of any age, without being supervised..........it's a sad day for TerrificPets.com
At the shelter were i work at all volenteers have a right to say no to the adopters like if we dont like the people or how they react to the animals I HAVE A RIGHT TO SAY NO about thoise other doggs thats just sick how can people do that to poor inocent creatures :'( ITS JUST SAD Melissa
"If you can find it in your heart to just feel sorry for them, because most aren't playing with a full deck, another words they only have half of brain." Thanks for bashing me once again Bogie you just decided to move it to another post. Like I stated in another post, I will take your comments with a grain of salt. You sure are not hurting me with your words in any way, shape or form. By your niece watching the video just proves that you were not monitoring her internet usage and she did not read the "WARNING". I'm stepping off my soap box now.
