Pet stores really aren't a good place to get a dog. No telling where tyey come from. Google "puppymills" and "backyard breeders" that's where pet shop puppies come from...Look on this site for puggles...it's great because you get to adopt and save a life instead of supporting puppy mills! www.petfinder.com
Pet stores are a terrible place to buy a dog. However, it is good that you thought to come here and ask about it. I didn't know about puppy mills or have a good understanding about why pet shops are in the wrong until a couple years ago when I started looking at dog forums.

Well, my very first dog I bought from Pet City. He had such a bad heart defect (dysplastic mitral valve of the heart) that the vet told me he would probably not live past a year. Pet City does have a contract for genetic defects, but they demanded the dog back. I mean, at least they were willing to honor their contract, but I wish they could have just refunded my money or a portion of the money and let me keep the dog, as we were really attached to him in the short time we had him. They wouldn't give me a refund, but only store credit and said they HAD to take the dog back. So we purchased another puppy with the store credit. He got really sick. Turned out he had parvo and it was so severe he had to be put down. This all happened before I knew about petstores. They are a horrible place to buy puppies from. Not only that, but they charge exorbate prices, when you can get a better quality from a breeder for less. I saw a Golden Retriever in my local Pet City for 800 dollars the other day. And in the paper, you can get them from a reputable breeder that has his dogs DNA tested and certified for around 600.
