I hacve a cat who insists on peeing in the bathroom. We've had her almost her whole life. The problem started about six months ago (she's a year). We've tried giving her a larger box, changing back to the sand we thought she was used to, she had no stress on her at that young age, she doesn't have her box in a high traffic area, her food is across the hall from the box (not close at all). She was litterbox trained to start with, but then decided out of the blue to use the bathroom. The box has always been in the same place. No one bothers her in there. What could her problem be?
what kind of cat do you have? persian cats are notorious for bad litter box behavior. also how often do you clean it out? and how many cats use the same box? my male cat likes his litterbox sparkling clean. he is such a fussy thing. if it isn't clean to his desire he will come out of the box and go elsewhere to do his business. maybe try putting the litterbox in the bathroom.
sometimes cat do this just because (behavioral) and then again it could be a urinary tract problem. Get some no sorb from your vet, replace the litter with this and stick him in the bathroom until he uses it. Then take to your doctor and have a urine test done. Could be something simple, since he is older and really never had a problem.
It might be a good idea to take your cat to the vet. My cat was doing the same thing and it turned out that she had a uti. My vet said that she was having "litterbox anxiety" due to the pain from the infection. Along with an antibiotic, he also prescribed an anti-anxiety medication. (Kitty prozac?!)
Put the liiter box in the bathroom, perhaps she needs more private time, and more magazines!! There is a brand of litter out there that is supposed to attract the cat, Ill look around and see if I can find the name of it. .....www.preciouscat.com Cat Attract litter Try putting some of her poop in the box so she can smell it in the pan(just a little bit)
"persian cats are notorious for bad litter box behavior. " Really? I'd never heard this..it could explain alot. Mine are both half persian. When we lived in an apt we kept the kitty litter in the bathroom and the cats seemed to prefer going in the bathtub. Drove us nuts! I would fill the bathtub with water but my male would just go in the sink or on the floor. Then he got to the point where he always wanted to pee on the bathmat..so we had to get rid of the bathmat. We finally moved into a house and now have room for two kitty litters...and we keep the bathroom doors closed. Well, the female has been good but my male likes to pee on this certain spot on the utility room floor (where we had a throw rug naturally). I finally gave up and now keep puppy pads in that spot because nothing I did would stop him. The puppy pads at least protect my floor. I've had cats my whole life and never had these problems....so ya think it could be the persian in them?
mrama it could be. i can't even tell you how many persian owners i know of that have this problem. it seems to be a big problem with the breed. it's a shame because i always thought they were very beautiful and i wanted one until i started learning more about these type of problems. i have one fastidious cat i have to keep on top of as it is. he drives me crazy!!
I have Balinese and my male just all of a sudden started peeing in the bath tube, and he will poop right out side of the litter box i change it every other day so it doesn't get gross ANY IDEAS .....PLEASE I'M MIND BOGGLED .???
