Hello Miasmom and I hope that you get lots of helpfull tips here..i dont have chi's or Schitzues...but many do on this board...you will have lots of people to share experences with...I hope you have fun...take care
I used to have chi's, and when learning about them, the one thing I found out is the are natorouis (sp) for only liking their own breed, and no other dog. Now I have large breed dogs, and when I got my second pup, the vet told me to make sure the older dog got more attention than the pup, and to make sure the older is treat like they are the alpha and more special than the pup.
I think having a female and male may work to your advantage, as dogs don't get as territorial that way. What I would do, is for the first week, keep them separated. Have your new puppy segregated to a bedroom or bathroom. Still give them both attention, but make sure it's separately. Then, after the first night, swap their blankets that they sleep on so that they are sleeping on each others blankets. This will get them used to each other's smells. After a few days, start bringing your new puppy around your other one, but make sure your other dog is on a leash so he can't get too hyper around the puppy and scare her. Each day, have them around each other more and more, but just make sure your Chihuahua doesn't get too playful with the puppy. She is in a new situation after all, and his playfulness combined with the new environment is probably just making her uneasy. After a few weeks she will probably losen up, I would just give it time and give her her own space with a kennel that she can go to when she feels scared.
