I work at a restaurant. We have an outdoor patio where people can bring their dogs to eat.
Anyway, today I was at work, looking out the window I was watching this couple getting out of their car to come inside. They opened the back door of their suv and I saw a little puppy sitting there. They closed the door and came inside. I noticed they didn't leave ANY windows open. It was cooler today, about 79 degrees, but you still need to leave windows open.
They come inside and I told them I saw their puppy and that they could bring her to the patio and eat outside if they wanted. They said no they don't want to sit outside. I said well you can't leave her in there with the windows up and they said she'd be fine. I said fine.. a fine is what you will get when I call the police!!!! The woman finally went outside and opened all the windows half way.
What morons. Did they want to go outside to a dead dog??
yeah, i call the minute i see a dog locked in a car. i have a suburban. i leave all the windows down, the sunroof open and the hatch back up. i do not worry about anyone stealing my stuff. we leave shayna out of the crate. she won't leave. but i have never had a problem. again if you don't have the means take the dog home.
Yeah I leave the windows down for Riley too. Lately it has just been way too hot to leave him in the car for just a few minutes. It's a little better since I fixed the AC, but if I'm going to be going into the store I bring him home first. It gets very hot just in the time I pay for gas! Couldnt imagine leaving him while I went and had dinner..sheesh.
There is alot of times I would love to take mine with me to Petsmart, but, usually I have other shopping to do too. I would not even think one minute about leaving mine in the suv in this Texas heat. I agree people are stupid as heck. It makes me furious to see animals abused like that. They would not consider abuse I'm sure but then they also leave their kids in hot cars too. Go fugure. I think they were not in line when the brains were passed out.
Totally agree. Being in Texas leaving them in the car, even with the windows down is usually not even an option. Basically you take them inside with you or you don't take them. Only other option is to leave them in the car with the a/c on fill blast and still I won't do it unless someone else is with me to stay in the car, even if I'm only going to be a second.
People are such idiots. It happens here every single year, someone leaving their dog in the car and it dies, but even worse it happens with babies too.
People really are stupid sometimes, they have no common sence and they refuse to listen to others (If I remember correctly you are about my age, 18) People older then me get so pissed if you suggest something to them, no matter how correct the advice or how nicely it is put.
"they said she'd be fine. I said fine.. a fine is what you will get when I call the police!!!!"
Did you actually think to say that to her? That is the kind of whitty thing that I always think to say right after the fact. Good for you for standing your ground.
Yes I said that, usually I think of things like that after the fact but it just came to me. I didn't care that I was at work, my boss won't fire me.. we're really close. They didn't say anything to him anyway and they did eat so I guess they were ok. I wasn't about to see a puppy go through that though, I didn't care if they left or not.
This is kindof ironic, I went to a local petstore one time to buy dogfood, and i knew someone who worked there and we were talking about what was going on because people were outside picketing against the store saying that all of their dogs were sick, anyways they had a dog with them, I cant think of the breed off the top of my head, it was one of those really big, dark gray dogs (brain fart, i cant think lol!), it was nearly 89 degrees and the dog had no water whatsoever! So i tell the lady that works at the petshop and she brought out a bowl of water for the picketers' dog and the grouchy woman kicked the bowl over and started hollering, yeah people are dumb.
Why didn't they want to eat on the patio? To HOT for them? You are right, people are so stupid at times. I loved your comment about the fine, I am like you, I would normally think of something like after they left.
I had a vet appointment yesterday and needed to stop at Walmart on the way home to pick up a few supplies. I had 4 dogs with so my Mom came with me. I didn't even mess with leaving the windows down. I stayed in the car with them! I just don't stop if it means leaving them alone.
Then again, my car has a dog traveling kit.... paper towel, extra towels, a bottle of water, a water dish, a ziploc with food, garbage bags, toys... It's like a diaper bag for the dogs....
I just had an idea. You should mention to your manager that he or he should put up a sign in the restaurant that people can see as soon as they come in, about how unsafe it is to leave an animal in a locked car and that heat exhaustion, or even death can result in jut a matter of minutes.
Abbylynne, I have the same kit in my car for Cody! Last Friday we took him to an outdoor concert and we took his blanket, his water bottle, his treats and we had the no hands fanny pack for him/me and of course baggies just in case. Next time I am going to put in a chew bone too! Aren't dogs fun! ! He really enjoyed the concert it lasted about 2 hours and was very well behaved, better then a lot of the kids.
