I feed the raw diet, for the most part, to my dogs. It makes their coat a lot healthier for one thing, and it is good for them ( so long as you are feeding the right food to them). I am also sure to give them extra vits and stuff
You can also look it up on the internet. Here is one site
julzz. I feed raw. and it is a cult. LOL. With all due respect to reds post. i feel it is safer to feed raw. high grade kibble can cost anywhere form 1.00 a lbs to 1.50. you can feed raw for the same amount. making your own is the most cost effective. you can find co-op groups that buy mass amounts and ship them to different to drop off points. where you pick-up. check out an example, google socal barf co-op. If you are interested put you dogs on raw for two weeks. a good rule of thumb is feed 2-3% of ideal body weight. or feed a pound for every 50 a day. give it two weeks and you'll see results. If there is one thing i have done for my dogs my health that i just could not do with out it is feeding raw. if you have more questions? i am always happy to help
Julz Raw is great! You will probably spend a little more money than you would with kibble. But if you have an extra freezer you can buy in bulk and save quite a bit of money. I still have yet to get one so I buy Khan a week's worth of food at a time since that is all that will fit in our freezer along with our stuff.
Never feed cooked bones! It makes them brittle and splinter and can cause damage.
Probably the easiest thing to start off with would be chicken quarters. You will want to supervise while Logan eats to make sure he doesn't swallow big bites whole.
I feed Khan his chicken quarters still slightly frozen to make sure he chews well.
Julz if you haven't already joined go to http://www.germanshepherds.com sign up and us the discussion forums! Tons of info on there about everything! It's a wonderful site full of information! The have a RAW/B.A.R.F section with lots of info. I read a lot in there and that is what convinced me to make the change. (Besides the fact that Khan was so picky)
