that is not necassary, a dog blood sugar that is low is either is diabetic, hypoglycemic, over worked or mal nutrioned or both. a regualr diet causes the boddy to release natural insulin that regulates blood sugar in a healthy dog
If you have a toy puppy that could be prone to hypoglycemia and are going to be gone for a period of time it is a good idea to put a bit of honey in the water. Hypoglycemia can happen if the pup forgets to eat, or plays to hard. or gets stressed from you being gone. It usually won't happen after the age of 12-14 weeks. NOT EATING is the main cause of it, so if you but a bit of honey in the water they get sugar from that it can help. A lick of Nutri-cal AM and PM can help increase the appetite and add a bit of sugar and vitamins.
Yes, this is only needed in special circumstances. It won't hurt to give an added source of sugar as a preventative measure...but I would suggest Karo Corn Syrup instead of Honey as some dogs can have an allergic reaction to Honey just like some people.
