I am not rying to start any problems but it blows my mind that there are so many named mixbreds - snoodles - yorkipoos - jugs - morkies and the lists continues on and on and on. I do believe that Poodles have been crossed with about every dog there is.
Dont get me wrong I have no problem with mix breed dogs. (accidents do happen) It just amazes me at he people that are paying 100s of dollars for a mixed breed dog that 5 maybe 10 years ago breeders could not give away.
I fully agree that mixing breeds of dogs destroys top blood lines and that is a shame ther has been years of breeding that goes into rasing top of the line dogs and to think all it takes is someone following a fad and breeding to another breed and all the effort that was put into the perfection of both breeds is shot down the drain. I understand accidents happen but these are no accidents.
In my opinion if you want a mixed breed dog a.k.a. designer dog then go to the pound. I am sure that is where a lot of these designer dogs could be found before the fad of owing one.
This topic is just going to start more aguements than it's worth. If you look back at the threads this subject has already been beat to death. It's not going to change anybodies mind about buying a mix breed. If they want it there going to pay the money. It's been nice the last couple of days with no fighting on the forum.
I was not trying to start anything I just wanted to have an opinion but any one who wants to delete or remove it feel free to. I just had something to say and said it. Sometimes venting helps and that is what I did.
Why do people pay hundreds even thousands of dollars for a purebreed? Because IT IS WHAT THEY WANT! I haven't read many threads from people who have purchased a designer dog write in to ask why do people have to spend so much for a purebreed? Everyone has their dog of choice and they know what they are willing to pay for it. It really shouldn't matter to anyone else how much you paid for your dog what really matters is that the pup is getting a good home where it will be loved and cared for. I truly understand both sides of this arguement as I have owned both mix breeds and purebreeds. Some people want a pet and some want a pet/show dog so there is a need for mixes and for purebreed. The breeders of the designer mixes aren't using the top of the line studs so the bloodline should be fine for the purebreeds. As long as you have people willing to buy the designer dogs you will have breeders and the same for purebreeds and that should be ok. I think people in general forget that designer dogs are a mix breed because so much fuss has been made about this. I think we now have three catagories of dogs, Purebreeds, Designer Dogs ie: morkies, labdoodles where you have breeders breeding two specific breeds together, these are not accidents, yes they are still a mixed breed and then you have the mix breed which are truly accidents. As far as people going to the shelters or humane society for their designer dogs I know ours don't have many purebreeds or designer dogs but they seem to have a lot of great mixes! I have gotten several mixed dogs from ours and have loved them all. I have had purebreeds in the past too and now I have a "Designer Dog" and I paid $150.00. He is a Bichon Frise/Westie "mix" and I don't regret paying that much for him. He has brought so much joy into our lives! I truly didn't know about "Desinger Dogs" until after I had gotten him and found this forum, I was just looking for a great pet for the family and I had researched the Westies for months and thought that this breed would be great for our family and then in the paper I found this ad for Bichon Frise/Westie, litter of 4 males. Well I did some research on the Bichon Frise and decided to go look at them so my husband and myself and my mother went over that same evening and it took us 2-1/2 hours to pick out the one we wanted, we only had 4 to choose from! To me, purebreed, designer dog, mix breed they are all great and pay whatever you are comfortable with, don't worry about how much others spend! Sorry this is so long but this debate has been going on way to long, this is probably the last thread I will read or answer on this subject!
I'm certainly no expert on dog breeding, or any kind of breeding for that matter but I must say I agree with Luvschnauzer. There are many mixed breeds at the pound and free in the paper if that is what you want. They are probably all great pets. It took years to perfect some of the lines we now have and to set a standard. The Schnauzer is believed to be a mixture of the Spitz, The Dog of Bologne, the Poodle, the Gray Wolf Spitz, and the old German Pinscher. So if you mix a Poodle with a Schnauzer, are you not just reversing what time has accompolished? My own opinion is that a schnoodle sounds like bad Italian food and Puggles sound like a Harry Potter character. I guess I'm a snob as I don't care for designer clothes either!
