My dog was diagnosed with kennel cough and was treated with antibiotics. She uis still coughing and I have read that some robitussin may be good for her. My question is how much? She is about 30lb and four months old. I already gave her 2.5cc and it was fine for a couple of hours but then she started coughing again. Maybe she needs a bigger dose. If anyone knows something I will be grateful. Bye
You may want to call your vet. I purchased a min pin puppy and when he got to me via shipping he was coughing. I took him into the vet the day after getting him and he was diagnosed with kennel cough. My vet seems to think there is a new strain of kennel cough that last for 2 to 3 weeks. After a week of antibiotics his white cell count was still out the roof so, he was started on another med. Now, as of yesterday he is on his 3rd antibiotic. This Friday will be 2 weeks. But, the good news is I have not heard him cough as much today. I think he is finally getting over it. So, your poor dog could be going through the same thing and need more antibiotcis. Mine is on Delta Albaplex now.
I know I did not answer your question about the robitussin. But, I hope your dog gets better. I sure am glad that mine is finally on the road to recovery.
Please, please, please call your vet and don't try to give your dog robitussin for the cough. It won't hurt her, but if was already diagnosed with kennel cough, the antibiotics are gone, and she is still coughing, she needs different antibiotics.
I don't ment to scare you, but in a way, I do. What concerns me is that kennel cough can turn into pneumonia. I lost a 3 month old pup to kennel cough because it turned into pneumona, and then distemepr, and she was a vet's care.
Kennel cough does not go away by itself and may only get worse. All the robitussin in th world isn't going to make it better.
PLEASE take her back to your vet and let him listen to her lungs to make sure she doesn't have pneumonia.
