I'm terribly sad today. I have two female shih tzus and one just had babies. While I was at my sons football game last night I came home to discover that the two pens I put them in while we were away are side by side and one puppy (only 2 days old) must have gotton into the other pen with my other female shih tzu and she ate half of it. I am soo upset and guilt ridden over it. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing? I thought I had them seperated but didn't think of everything I guess.
Wow! That is sad. I am sorry for your loss. I guess in the future. Dont leave any other dogs around the mom or the puppies. If you could keep them in your bedroom away from every other dog in the house. I feel for the mom that must've been hard for her not able to do anything about it. I am so sorry to both of you.
Oh and I have heard of that happening, but not very often since the mom normally does not let any other dog go near her pups in this case she could'nt help the puppy once it went into the other pen. I have also heard of moms doing that to their puppies also, but have not met anyone that has happened to.

Yes, I have heard of that quite often. Happened to a friends Poms. The bitch that did the killing was the dominant one and I guess the other, smaller bitch was overwhelmed. It was her first litter. So sorry. Another lesson learned the hard way, yes? Seems most of mine are!
yeah it happened to my old dogs b4. One of my shepherd mix accidentally bit a small puppy when they wre playing. When we went to china for vacation, I've heard of case where a family brought home a stray dog. That day the father also went out to work and left his two twin boys at home that were only several months home with their grandmother. Well their grandmother fell asleep and the dog ate one son, and by the time the dad came home the dog was mauling his other son to pieces. Very sad and freaky. Just try to monitor your pups next time.

I also read an article of a pomeranian mauling a baby girl while his uncle went to make baby formula. In order to avoid this you should always monitor your puppies and children when your around dogs. I'm not saying all dogs are bad, but it's just a precaution you should take.
most cases, a dog will eat their puppies especially if there's something wrong with the pup, cats are very well know for this type of behavor, i once had a cat name kitty ,she had 4kittens , one was born with a birth defect, left went to work came back baby kitten gone. she had eaten him.so i think it's a normal behavior in some animals. but if you dont' see nothing wrong with babies in the next litter then please sep.
