I had turned on the rear large burner of the stove, the least used one. This was to cook some linguini. Anyway, the water was on there and it was getting hot, but the burner was making a stink, as that burner goes unused and gathers spatters, so it seems to always have some little bit to burn off. Chubby was in the kitchen, and suddenly began sniffing the air. He got a look of horror on his face!
But- it wasn't, "Oh dear! I must sound the alert and save the family from the fire!"
Rather, it was, "Oh how awful! That dreadful loud beeper is about to start going off!" (that would be the smoke alarm)
He knew THAT SMELL meant the smoke alarm was going to beep at us. His sniffing and look of alarm prompted me to open the sliding door to let the smokiness out, so the beeper didn't beep! So he did save the day after all.
Its good that he can help out in the kitchen.Thats more than most men do!LOL=) Flash stays under my feet while I cook. Heaven help what ever hits the floor. If it makes it to the floor=).Roscoe sits under the table while the boys eat.We call him our little vaccum!
Mine actually know the sound each family member makes when opening the door and they only get up when it's someone who they want to say hello to. They also don't bark when people drive by, but start the second someones tire crosses the driveway. They can also recognize the sound of my dad's truck when he's about 1/2 a mile down the road because they start to howl - and only for him. I swear they are smarter than us...
We have a Pug who just insists on racing to me and running back and forth between me and the kitchen any time the tea kettle whistles (I guess she thinks I'm deaf, or it annoys her and I move to slow to make it stop) I suppose she will come in handy if I ever lose my hearing!
LOL. My husband has pipes on his truck. We live on a lake so it echoes.Flash was about 2 1/2 months old when she started running to the door doing her coyote howl. You know the head is throwed back=) If you have ever heard a hound you know that this can be VERY loud. She can hear my husband coming down the road long before I can.I have very good hearing. She will work herself up ssssssssoooooo much I have to let her on the porch before he gets out the truck because she wets herself. This is a everyday event at our house. At least I know when to heat supper up!LOL
