Okay I know this has been a topic here, but I have to bring it up again,I live in Sabine Parish La.I lost all our food,We were without electric here for 7 days. Then 1 more this week, the tree people cut my line.We cannot get any help.We are running low of funds and my hubby has lost several days of work. Please help the animals,If we are not getting help I know the animals are not
Ok that sounds bad.I'm really glad the we have our house. There are alot of people that lost EVERYTHING.I just had a bad day.I've been trying to get some help.We lost a freezer and frig. full of food.Fema won't help unless you have lost or have damage to your house.Witch is ok those people need it worse than me.Everyone thought that b/c we are a diaster area we could get enough food stamps to get us through.Thats not happening.Red Cross is helping.Thank goodness!
Anyways if the people are not getting much help, you wonder about the dogs and cats.I am going to call the local shelters in the morning to see if I can help.Foster or something? If you can please donate, foster, something Thanks
I'm just north of you in a town called Petal Ms just outside of Hattiesburg...We are in the same mess...Red Cross is a JOKE....they only gave to employees of large corp. We have a town that is mostly seniors...hubby and i have been running around trying tohelp them and all the displaced pets...right now ( i have 7 dogs of my own) we are feeding 17 dog and puppies and who knows how many people we have bought groceries for. We keep food bowls in the car and a 50 pound bag of food for dogs and cats just in case.,,But the peple especially the seniors and disabled are without food. I dont know if it will ever get straightened out
Bless your heart. This is so fustrating.I'm very greatful for what I do have, but no one is helping.FEMA is up the road handing out a days worth of food for each family memeber. We drove 1 hour to get to the Red Cross to be turned away.To make a long story short we went back and got in.There was people in line that had no business there!
Keep on helping,Its people like you that make the world a better place.I'm gonna see what I can do,I've donated dog food, but I am doing good to feed us.Good thing I bought a 50 lb. bag of dog food before the storm. That will last them a while.
They are helping. Its just a slow process.I think they have to weed out the people who are just wanting money. There is alot of that.I told off on a woman yesterday when I was doing my app. They said thet they only wanted people w/ damage to there house.I have some but its stuff we can fix.She had none! Her parish is not a disaster either. All I had to do was tell them my zip code and they processed me.The bad thing is it can take 7 to 14 days to get anything. That means alot of PB&J for me.
Please do stop giving if not to Red Cross than to someone else. There are people who really need it.
You know the saying it only takes a few bad apples to ruin the whole bunch.
A friend of mine that I used to do rescue with said they called about helping out and she was told you have to take 6 dogs min. Many have heartworm and mange, cocci and need to be spay/neutered. Many were pits which they don't really work with, unless they know the dogs background. You got what you got period, even if they were " fear biters, agressive etc" she didn't care wht kind of dog big or small, mutt or pure, she just wanted social dogs that would be adoptable. After treating all the dogs they still would have to hold them for 30-60 days to see if they could find the owner. That would tie up all the foster homes for the dogs in need in MN for to long. She said the paperwork is a nightmare too, and after spending all the money and time on the dogs you might not even be able to adopt them out. We loaded my friends semi with tarps, food, clothes, pet food, diapers etc and he drove to MS to drop the stuff off and said he saw Many resuces waiting for days to get in and resuce dogs, but they wouldn't let anyone in. He said there were 30 semis locked up holding food and water and the place he was at in MS had not gotten any help yet and it was day 7. there were the trucks sitting there with guards doing nothing. He was meeting a pastor of a church to drop the stuff off and went to a different spot and opened the doors. The locals came and got what they needed and brought stuff to others themselves in vans. Like I said it was day 7 and he was the first help they had gotten when there were trucks right there sitting locked up..??.. My prayers are with you all ( pets too) and I hope things get better soon.
First let me say thank you for helping! Second my advice to everyone is to foster if you can but do not take in any pits unless you know their background.Better yet ask for proof of it!Fighting is so big I would be scared to take in a pit.It is not worth putting your self family and pets at risk.I've seen what these dogs can and will do. Third, six dogs thats crazy. If you can only take one or two they should be happy with that. Fourth,There is so much red tape you have to get through that is just stuid! Finally, getting turn away was awful!!!!When you are a mom trying to find a way to feed your family it will drive you crazy.( a little personal info, there was a time in my childhood where we were hungry so I have issues about keeping food in our house and my kids fed).Any ways we got in and the lady told me that I should get help.
P.S. I donate blood too.I'm O pos. They call me all the time.lol
If you are going to donate then give to a local church that is sending stuff down here...we just opened a distribution center out of our garage and a huge church in Hattiesburg is helping us. It's called St. Thomas and Fathr Tommy Conway is the angel in charge there....We just got back from delivering 3o bundles of food both human and pet food to some of the famiies and will start again inthe am. I will say it again...Red Cross is worthless around here. I just came froma lady's house. she is 79 and cant leave her house. When we got there all she had to eat was a can of tuna and a small package of crackers and she was living on that for 5 days now..She had called red cross and they told her she needed to go stand in line and wait her turn..It rally hurts my heart to see all this and then come home to my mess but we will keep on going becaue there are so many that need so badly
I am sorry to hear that. I live in Beaugard Parrish, we have been without power since the storm hit luckly they have people working on everything and should have power up some time this weekend (I hope). We have been staying in Houston so we were not really effected. I was told that they had so much animal food going around Louisiana that they were telling people to stop bringing pet food for a while. Try to contact FEMA they have been bringing food for people and animals to all the areas that are in need. I'm sure they will help. Good luck!
We lost all our food.I bought a 50 lb. bag of dog food the friday of the storm. So the dogs are good. The Bassets are still pups so they do not eat alot.Ernest(the golden) does not eat much either. Not for a big dog.
Good news.We got help from the state. They started giving disater cards for food, yesterday.Thank goodness.
My mom and I have been donating to a local church. They are using the classrooms for bedrooms.Clothes and diapers mostly.
