Hi, I picked up my Pom girl yesterday and she is settling in today. Last night she would be sitting down, relaxed, but panting. Do you think it is because she nervous? Just a few minutes before she started panting, she had gotten her head stuck in a KFC bucket, being a nosy dog. I'm having her in to the vet on thrusday for a complete check up. I'm concerned with heartworm. She had not been realy well looked after for the last six months or so. I read that progressed heartworm can cause breathing issues. But that would mean she would've contracted it awhile ago, but either way, she's having a test done when she goes.

Thanks guys! Animallover: yes they are a lot of work. Especially since I got her from someone who didn't have time for her, eeks! Grooming a Pom, not fun. Also, I do have to clean her eyes frequently, it's the pertruding eyes. I have Chihuahuas too .I have the time though.
Dusty: She totally is. I get my camera out and she's ready.
Barligirl: Your Poms are so pretty, they have great faces and heads. Her name is Franchesca Fancy Pants. Lol, my daughter's name is Emma.
hey, all of your poms are soooo cute! I myself have a pom. he is 10 months old and chocolate colored. i was curious if any of you have seen many chocolate colored poms because everywhere i go, ppl stop me and say they have never seen a pom that color before. and i also have a question for barligirl-in one of your pics, it looked like one or a couple of your pom's coats were cut very close or even shaved. is that okay to do with poms cuz i heard it wasnt but ive seen pics of poms shaved and i think they look so cute! i was just wondering.
barligirl-thanks for the info! i have wanted to shave my pom (he's not a showdog either) but i heard somewhere that it was bad for them or something. but now that i know that is not true, i will consider it a bit more. thanks!
No I don't believe it was. It started really badly after she got her head stuck in a KFC bucket and ran around the kitchen. * Sigh *, all in all she had a good first night. She gets out of breath when she chews herself though. One of my Chihuahuas has a thick coat and gets short of breath too when she's groming herslef, but she is fat.
