Well, Angie has again decided that she will go 2 1/2 days without eating and has thrown up bile.
This is nothing new for her. I have had her at the vet's office several times for this problem. All the vet tells me is not to worry. When she's hungry, she will eat. Well, she's hungry now, but she still won't eat.
How does one go about forcing a dog to eat? Do I have to literally put the food down her throat as I would with a pill? She won't even eat a treat, but I know if I just threw up, I wouldn't want to eat right away either.
Please help. I know she needs some food in her tummy.
I would try some boiled chicken or even some jarred baby food meats and see if she will eat it....If not then I would try some liver. If she refuses liver than I would say you need a new vet. There is obiviously something very very wrong
Yes, the vet did take blood and everything came back normal. Angie was always a finciky eater ever since I adopted her from the pound at 8 weeks of age. She's now 9 months old, and every day is a game to get her to eat. She's never eaten people food or scraps, nor does she eat canned food I did try that though a little while ago she walked away from that, too. Her last vet visit for this problem was about a month ago.
harlee29, sorry to hear about your dog, but for starters I w/try chicken broth, after it cools down, see if your dog w/take it (in the meantime look for another Vet for 2nd Opinion), at the very least to keep the dog from getting dehydrated. If the dog takes the Broth, gradually add in some plain WHITE Rice. I'm not saying change Vets, but at least have another one look at the dog. My dog ended up w/2 BIG Ulcers & a mass in his small intestine. The first alarm I had was when he threw up Blood that was like jello...I immediately loaded him up & went from 2 different Vets to an Emergency Clinic where they did Surgery, (he's fine now) but I couldnt give him ANY solid food for almost 2 weeks...Meds & Liquids only. Then he went on a diet that was easy on his stomach, & gradually he got to solids. The first solid I had him on (Per the Vet), was boiled Chicken BREAST, doc said NO dark meat. I also introduced "Saltines" crushed up, w/some of the Rice & Broth. This was a a year ago, (GSD he's 11yrs old), doing fine now. I have been able to go back to his Dog Food (Dry & Canned), but I'm still boiling chicken (Dark meat now), his breakfast is Chicken & Rice, he gets Dog Food for dinner.........if I try & give him anything else for breakfast other than his chicken, he looks at it, then looks at me as if to say "You eat it, thats not chicken!" and walks off...............good luck
