One of the club memebers from my club took first, a 17 y/o girl with her malinois, with an 82 in OB 75 in TR and 88 in PR. Not a flattering score. but yet she won. her dog looked great though. The things tht were disturbing, was a german shepers was waiting to be called on the field. now, the dog was going bananas, whining to go work, a good thing in my book, you can get dinged for points on being vocal during some of the exercises. but i would rather have my dog showing drive. than to correct the dog and hurt it before going on the field. so thi guy with GSD yanks the collar so hard the dog screams and gags. this not only the dumbest thing you ca do, correcting your dog for showing drive. but it was deifntly abuse. and the next thing was a young dobie was getting ready. i here thiscrck from behind the cars and look and a young teenager has the sleeve on and the handler is beating the dog with a stick, the kid used in Sch. now hurting the dog with the stick it has to face in the trial, well you can see where that will casue trouble and it did the dog got let off the leaash did a victory lap around the field. imo because it wanted to runaway and wqas looking for a way out. luckily it was a fenced field. then the dog finally decided top play along, ran up to the helper (the guy who has the sleeve) saw the stick and ran away. and at no time does the helper hit the dog with the stick like this lady did. and the stick is a soft flexible stick, but still cap-able of leaving welts. this is a perfect example of either the dog is not courageous enough but the handler is trying make the dog mad= bite out of fear, no good. Or the handler is the most moronic trainer ever. and these people supposably love thier animals. this makes me so mad. we have a hard enough time convid=cing the general public. this is a safe, humane, fun sport. i am getting a website that is exposing this side of police and protection dog training. i will post it. needless to say i had enough and left as well as the rest of my club did.
Aww Gunny thats so sad. Im sorry you didnt have a good day.Thats how I feel about petsmart trainers sometimes. LOL Those poor dogs though. could you not do anything about it? Do alot of people "train" like that?
red the girl that won the trial started with this club, she left after another club "field goal" style kicked her dog for not being quite. they called the police, the rest of the club of the backed the lady who kicked the dog. the girl then handed her resignation in. i guess she got the sweetest revenge by beating them at thier own trial. but yes, unforunatley the guy with the choke collar, would be hard to prosecute, choke collar training is not illegal. the other lady whom hit her dog, got flack from a bunch of people. you heard comments like, a lot of good hitting the dog did. and what not. the sport is kind of taking care of itself. there recently has been a shift in training styles. the people winning are becoming more positive and less forceful. and the results are proving themseves. there are many people whom are clinging onto ww2 style training methods. but the thing is they are having a hard time winning. which also makes selling puppies hard. most people want to see parents who have been succesful. so the sport is cleaning up it issad to see it is still there though
a good breeder friend of mine is heavly involved in training and tracking,,and all the good ol boys didnt accept her cuz they didnt think a lil women can do it..well she does it all with out abuse...but these guys punch there dogs she claims....she lets her dogs go on drive...she has titled many of her own dogs...they finally accept her...well kind of..but she doesnt like how they treat their dogs..
