Hi I have 2 dogs. a lab mix male and a rotty female..
Both dogs are fixed.. The lab is about 14 months old, we adopted him from the pound and he was fixed there.. The rotty is fixed and is 5 years old..
The problem we are having is the Lab is wild as hell.. he trys to hump the rotty every second of the day.. is there anything to do to prevent this?
its very hard to get him to listen as well. he runs off with everything and is just crazy. anyways we have taking him to OB school and that didnt work athough he is better but he is still wild.. someone out there.. please either help me.. or kill me! :)
Is the dog getting good exersize?Im talking an hour jog and maybe with a backpack on. Tell the dog NO and always have him on a leash. When he starts it tell him no and pull him off of her.Is he humping other things? He could just asserting his dominice over her.He needs walks or jogs and I mean LONG walks or jogs.Wear him out!!!Tell him NO and pull ihm off of her like I said before.if thsi doesnt work get some water or vinegar out and spray him when he is doing it.
he only does it to her. The funny thing is he seems scared of her when she gets mad at him a chases him barking.. But I could understand how he could he trying to become higher then her in the food chain..
as far as him running off with things we have sprayed things with bitter apple.. some times it works and sometimes it doesnt.. its just becoming very hard.
He runs off with stuff that is not his?? Thats not his business, you get that thing anyway you can.I think the best thing you can do for his is he gets no off leash house privledges. He is always on a leash 24/7 unless he is in the crate. Let your Rottie scare him. This is how dogs work.If its only her Im sure its a dominice thing. If you dont wnat him to be the dominti one do these things first with the other dog.feed her first, let her out first, greet her first, let her get into car first, she goes in doors first, she gets let out of crate first, everything they do she does first, she gets treats, toys and goodies first. Now if this doesnt work and he is still humping.Turn it around and give him everything first.
This dog Im sorry to say thins hes the dominit one when it comes to you.Try these things:You eat first, wlak out of doors first,he can only do stuff when you tell him to.Exersize this dog until he is wore out!!! He needs to be in a crate some too and when hes not on the crate hes on a leash.
Another thing you can try is make him sit anytime he wnats attention, food, water, toys, anything!Dont let him eat until you say OKAY.thats after he sits and waits for it though.
He also right now is going through his teen stage. He WILL get over it!! Dont give up!!! But Ic an tell you the most important thing is exersize.
I think you need to invest in a doggie backpack.fill it with water bottles.Let him walk or jog with that on.It will wear him out even more and he will feel likes he doing a job for you.
The three main things are:Exersize, disipline and THEN affection!!!
retrievers are famous for picking up anything they can and wanting to run around or play fetch with them. Its your job to let him know whats ok to do this with. My Lance comes in and wants shoes, socks, stuffed animals, etc. I take it from him and set it down in front of him or in its normal place and keep telling him no when he goes for it. Then I give him something that it is ok to play with.
sounds like a dominace thing. he's fixed? weird. i know some people use a spraying water on cats and some breeds of dogs to make them not do things. but i'm thinking that wouldn't work with a lab. maybe he's just still in his puppy phase and that's where all of his energy is coming from.
Dogs do not always hump out of a wild sexual craze. they are trying to let the other dog or human...lol know they are the boss. The is also displayed when a dog tries to continuously stand over top another dog.
In my opinion the more punishing you do the worse it is going to get....as long as it is not causing physical harm just ignore it and let them figure out who is boss and it will stop.
