Have any of you had a basset? I am picking one up from my friends house tonight..he's a tri colored 8 month old and they can't keep him..So I'm adopting him till i can find a good home for him. He's AKC and is a very sweet boy..
Any info? like what kind of personality they have? the type of enviroment they are good in? ect.
A friend of mine has one, and the only things I can remember her really saying about him, is that he has a "hound" odor to him, she has to clean his ears about twice a week, and that his ears are always getting in both his food and his water. But she loves him! Says he is a great dog!
my basset was great, he had quite a personality. he was affectionate, cute, an oversized lap dog, and he loved to go for rides in the car. he was also very entertaining when we had people over, no one could get enough of him. but he was also stubborn - he only came inside when he was ready. and he was kind of a snob - didn't like dog food much.
they do like to bark at night, bueford did and that's how he got himself a spot in the bed. it was the only way he'd be quiet and go to sleep. but he was a good snuggler and bed warmer so it was no big deal.
does he have really long ears? if he does, they'll get wet when he drinks water - it's so cute! and he might trip over them once and while.
if everything works out in your home, you might consider keeping him as they make wonderful, loyal pets. good luck!
thank you! wish i could keep him..but i'm out on the lake for summer and in the snow winter time...and he wouldn't fit into my lifestyle.. my pup does tho :) Tucker (the basset) will be mine ONLY till i find him a good home. I just don't want him going to the pound..he's waaaaay to cute for that
Hi. I have 2 male bassets and I love them both. The problem I've seen with people getting them is that they think they are getting a small dog because they're short. But once grown they are medium sized very heavy, short dogs. If you decide not to keep him please e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Perhaps I could take him in. We have 9 acres to play on & I have 2 teens to help care for them. They are also strong dogs & unless they are properly leash trained, they'll walk you! LOL!
