Mandy never has any problems with her teeth. Tina and Max both need their teeth cleaned and I called to talk to her about Mandy's problem with the liver and spleen thing. While I had her on the phone I asked what it would cost for their cleaning. Boy, has it gone up. She said 229.00 and alittle more if she needs antibotics, and Max would be 249.00. What does everyone else pay for dental cleanings. I told her that was ridulous, I get mine cleaned free. ha!!!
good idea on teeh cleaning neglected teeth rot so fast with poorer diets not that you have a poor diet but if buid up is left and teeth rot it can and usually will poison the blood and conjestive heart failure can result in instances like that
i would ask your vet to show you if you dont already know to at least weekly cleaning ..so much cheaper sounds like you take great care :)

See, to me that sounds more realistic. They use to not be that high. If I have blood work and all that done before hand it will cost over 500.00 to have both of their teeth cleaned. Can't believe it. I have used these vets for years. I guess everything is going up, but my dentist is cheaper than that even if anyone didn't have dental insurance. geesh!!
How bad are their teeth? I think my old dogs teeth got progressively worse since I started having them cleaned. I've heard that the enamel is scraped and then it becomes porous and collects debris faster. Dont know if that is true, but it certainly seemed that way.
I brush my current dog's teeth with Wysong dentatreat. It is amazing at removing plaque. After a couple of weeks, the teeth are white. I've also heard that raw bones are good for teeth.
If they aren't too bad, I might try another alternative, first.
They have had their teeth cleaned several times, and they are not all that bad, but with some of their health problems I just didn't want to add to it. Tina is real good when you brush her teeth. The other two you almost have to fight. I brush them some but I forget too alot of times too. They also chew on rawhide bones and that helps. I have one of the scrapper things that I ordered a long time ago from Dr. Foster & Smith, but I am almost afraid I will hurt them with it.
Should a dog have to go under to get their teeth cleaned? I have just heard of so many times where toy breed dogs dont make it through after the cleaning b/c of having to go under for such a simple operation. What do your vets do for your small dogs??
Well that is where most of the expense is, is having them put under plus tests before and if they have to take any antibotics before too. It just adds up. Yes they do put the toys under because that is what Tina is.
