I almost died when I started reading about greenie hazards after the horrible weekend we had with our five month old yorkie.
She was fine one minute and near death the next. She started vomiting profusely and then became completely disoriented...fell flat on her face. We rushed her to the emergency vet and they contacted poison control because they suspected a toxin of some sort. They asked us if there was any chance she had ingested anti-freeze or decon. There absolutely was not any opportunity for those. To make a very long story short they didn't think she would make it through the night. When we finally came home we searched through her vomit and her only stomach contents were her food and this green rubbery substance. After complete searching of her allowed areas we came up empty. I soaked a greenie in water over night to see how it broke down cause it was the only substance we could come up with that was green. Sure enough it turned to rubber and when I chipped a piece off with my nail it looked exactly like what was in her stomach. Was the greenie to blame? We may never know, they could not find any cause for the incident...so far. She came home 2 days later and is recovering, thank God. You can bet I will be looking into the greenie thing though.
My dog Max is at the vet again right now because of a Greenie. We had him at the ER vet on Saturday and he is still not doing well. When he poops it is green and slimey. He is very, very sick and I am sitting on pins and needles right now waiting to hear from my husband who took him. THey are going to do any xray I hope. He also ate a house plant that was toxic after he had the greenie (which upset his stomach). I am so upset.............. Why do they allow the sale of Greenies???? I feel like going to PetCo and standing in the aisle with Greenies and yelling and telling everyone in the store to not buy them and tell them why!!!!!!!! =0(
I can't believe they are still selling those darn Greenies. It makes me crazy when I read these horror stories. I tell every dog owner I know never to feed their dog Greenies or even rawhide. I hope & pray your dogs will be fine.
