I've tried that when Duchess was after the groung moles but it didnt work. It does work for some dogs though. Wont hurt to try. Your dog may be doing it for entertainment. Have you tried to find other options for it to have fun with??
Some dogs are diggers and I had abeagle /basset that loved to go to ground for rabbits. It was her passion!LOL! So you may have to seclude it in a dig friendly area. You can train them to dig in certain spots but it takes constant supervisin and correction. Good luck.
duchess,The strange thing is he just started to do this 2 weeks ago.We have had him for almost a year..I realy thought it was Max the shepherd because it is a puppy thing. I have tried to put cat litter in the holes and put a little dirt in them. When we first look at this house the owner did not want any pets but she like us so she said they have to be outside.Well what she dosn't know wont hurt her..
Usually digging is a sign of boredom, or lack of exercise. I suggest more physical and mental stimulation as well as not leaving him unattended so that he can't dig..... Filling the holes with poop sometimes helps.
Well, I dunno, we have a Beagle that is the digging champ of the world. She digs for fun, for excercise, to smell something out, if she gets bored, she uses any reason to make holes everywhere, havent figured out how to break her of it yet either.

Praline...i am sorry to hear of your fathers passing...but i am glad you got to be with him and have some quality time...
i thought that was you..and just recently wondered about you...I am glad that you came back and now your settled in...
As for the shepherd...please dont take offence..but I dont think being happy about him biting or nipping is a good thing..even if your testing him with friends...i just think they are innately protective and far too often this is confused with aggression..and we dont need more aggressive shepherds..I dont let mine have any chance to nip or bite..I dont want to have to put them down because of being a liability...I hope you understand where I am coming from..they will always keep strangers at bay by the bark that sounds so fierse.....but I dont want to loose mine..so..please rethink this..I put mine away when ever possable and they are always in a fenced enclosure..Please protect your pals...they are to be weary of strangers...but some times it can be too much...good luck to you...
(Praline...i am sorry to hear of your fathers passing...but i am glad you got to be with him and have some quality time...) thank you.
no offence taking but the one that is realy protective over me is the basset. i was not bragging about bo biting it shock me.i never thought it was in the breed to be like that. all the othere i have been around is all like pet me love me hold me and them i have bo. i wish i could take bo place but i can't right now because of that.when it is
