i have had dogs in the past eat grass but usually only when they needed to throw up. these two, salty and scout, actually enjoy eating grass. it takes twice as long now to walk them because they stop and grab a bite of grass and will actually go around the yard looking for good grass to eat. its mostly weed type things they are eating and not the true grass.
we don't use anything on our lawn so i think it is pretty safe for them to eat the grass and weeds. but now they try and eat other peoples grass and they were eating the grass at the boat dock this evening while on our walk. so now not only do i spend half the walk untangling them from one another, i spend the other half yelling leave it !!! course being the wonderfully obedient dogs that they are <insert sarcasm here> they leave alone the blades of grass they were just about to munch when i tell them too. just to walk a few feet and quickly grab another blade GRRR
they havent put two and two together yet and realize i mean dont eat the grass at all, not just dont eat that particular piece of grass
anyone else have dogs that just truly enjoy munching on grass ?
Thanks... that is what Beau is doing... grazing like a cow. I was wondering about that because he hasn't eaten the grass & then got sick, he would just circle around while going to do his business & he would just grab a mouthfull of grass every chance he got.
none of my dogs have ever been grass eaters and then along comes ...............tiger lily. i have to follow her around the yard to be sure she goes potty instead of nibbling on grass, weeds, leaves or anything else that she finds out there. i had to give away my houseplants because she was way too interested in them . i didnt know which , if any, were poisonous and i didnt want to take any chances with her. i think the breeder misunderstood me and thought i said french goat and not french bulldog. i will know for sure if she starts to grow horns ! lol
Kota seems to really like to eat the grass as well. I just reacently started letting my cat out in the backyard (she was jelous of koda) it's so funny to watch them play koda chases emma around and will trip over his legs and just lay there eating the grass for a while until emma starts eating the grass and he will then run over and pounce on her like it's his grass and she is not to be eating it. they are so cute together, even though emma pretends that she doesn't like him.
so you're telling me my purebred Siberian Husky is part cow, to go along with the boing-ing of being part JRT? ;) Are sibes supposed to jump straight up in the air (like 4 feet in the air)? Are they supposed to graze on grass and blackberries? Just wondering.
yorkiemalt - don't even get me started on the additional tail. The taller the dog, the farther it flys if the dog turns around too fast, but if you try to remove it, it won't budge. What is up with that?

Jackson will eat grass sometimes but both with eat some clover type weeds. They are actually pretty good at pulling out a hunk of weeds. Georgie will pull out a hunk and get Jackson to chase her since he loves to take things from her. She just teases him.
If Georgie eats grass, she is sick.
What bothers me most is that they want to eat the worms, rabbit pellets and goose poop in the grass, so I have to watch that. But most worrysome is the mushrooms so I have to really watch that since Jackson got so sick on one.
One time after he got out of the hospital, he started to scratch on the mud a little and I let him for a change since he had been through so much and he pulls out a mushroom from under the mudd. I hollered loud enough he dropped it and jumped away. I wish he would understand they make him sick.
ROFL !!!!!!! i am glad i am not the only one with a new hybrid breed ..... and they would be true hybrids since they are different species LOL ....
my conversations go something like this :
scout leave it you're not a cow .... scout leave it ... SCOUT leave IT !! get busy will ya ? go poop .... LEAVE IT !!! SCOUT !!! alright thats it time to go back inside ... i didnt bring you out here so you could graze all morning long i have to get to work !!!
