Hi everyone... I just wanted to share that Beau was neutered today & I got him home with me tonight (I didn't feel right leaving him alone there all night). He seems to be in pretty good shape considering he had to have the additional surgery to get the other testicle removed from his stomach.
I haven't been able to get a really good look, but it looks like he was cut along the whole length of his "wizzer" & then up around the front of it. At the vet's office the girl working the front desk mentioned that he might have 1 maybe 2 stictchs that will need to come out, but it looks like a few more than 2.
I know someone with a small dog might think that the description of the incision may be fine, but he is not a small dog... he is 69lbs at 9 months old. I was told previously that the incision would be about the size to just fit a finger in... looks more like a fist than a finger hole.
He has had some water & is begining to eat a little.
Good luck w/him! We had a catahoula leopard dog that was a cryptorchid also. He was in quite a bit of pain after his surgery the same day but after some peace, quiet & rest he seemed to be back to himself w/in a week or so. Even w/his incision on his belly he didnt have to have his stitches removed bc they used the disolvable type stitches.
Beau is such a sweety... he is just mozying along, getting a drink of water & then looking for 1 of us to scratch him behind the ears. He is able to get up on the sofa now & he seems really comfortable with that, he is able to get down without any difficulty.
The vet prescribed an antibiotic for him & I started him tonight as requested... well I suspected that this will give him diarrhea & sure enough, his stools are getting soft/runny.
He is also starting to lick his stitches... depending on how determined he is with the licking, I might have to get him 1 of those lamp shade collars to wear, which of course I will take lots of pictures.
He is starting to feel better though, he is walking up to the cats, who by the way, still don't like him.
Yeah.. dont let him lick them. Either try the cone collar thing or perhaps try tying a tshirt around him (put his arms and head through it) and that way he couldnt get to them?
Kiba (female) had to take her back cuz her tummy got all red and she was SO uncomfotable ... got her some pain meds and she was acting herself again. But before when she wasnt feeling great I piled blankets on the couch and laid her on her back on them.. so she was tummy side up. Must have felt good cuz she slept for like 4-5 hrs that way. LOL.
Yeah... mark is from a Gentle Leader... I wish it didn't leave a mark, but he's such a hard puller. I hope that with watching the Dog Whisperer & him being neutered, maybe he will calm down on the pulling & the mark will go away.
And as far as the lamp shade goes... if I just show it to him, he puts his head down & walks away, so hopefully he will think again before he starts licking. He's been doing so well though, I thought it would be tougher than this to get him to stop... I just have to clap my hands & say "no lick" & he usually stops, if he doesn't, I show him the cone.
