Well as you all know,i gave up breeding Dogs and got me a pet rabbit, just to have something simple to take care of. Well Earlier today, She Started Panting, running around the Bunny proof room i made for her...and she begun to pull out hair from her chest, back ect...I was getting extremly worried...she started gathering her blanket && bedding from her cage into a little pile & next thing you know..Babies..16 to be exact...Tiny Little Pink Babies...i was in shock...i had no idea how she got pregnant ive only had her 2 weeks...so i called my cousin becky..and was like Hey would you have any idea, how Hasenfeffer (the rabbits name wich is german for sweet & sour rabbit stew) could have gotten pregnant? Turns out,her friend had a male rabbit..& they let them play together but she said she never saw him mount her..Sneaky little thing...But anyways...Now instead of 1..smiple pet rabbit...i am know the proud owner of 17 bunnies *sighs*
I think i have may missed counted...But im to scared to go digging in the cage...im afraid that Momma might get scared and bite me...i also heard that if you touch them and the get the smell of you on them...she won't take care of them...but i think in a few days...ill try with some gloves to count and make sure on the number...but ill get some pictures as soon as i can!
I'm not sure about rabbits, but I know that some other rodents are very very particular about you touching or being around their babies. :) Be careful, I'd suggest keeping a safe distance for a while. Congradulations!
We have a male rabbit and took in another 'male' on rescue once.....riiight, until the new male rabbit had babies, lol. We never touched the babies until the got the hair and started coming out of the nest on their own, not sure the general rule, but as a habit from when I had hamsters (who will kill their young for odd scents)
