I had to put my loving German Shephard to sleep in April. Because my husband had to do so much of the work that goes with a dog, I tried to live without one. It's the most depressing time I've had in the last 40 years. My husband is willing to live with another dog, but he has his issues. He doesn't want a dog that sheds so he has to vacuum every day. We once had an airedale and that was not a shedding problem, but she was likely to run away at every opportunity, and very hyper. I can't keep up with that now. I want a lap dog up to and including a standard poodle (big lap). I'm looking for a docile breed that enjoys spending time with me as I will with her, but a breed that doesn't have a high pitched yip and is willing to spend time in the car for our weekend trips. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Well, I'm partial to Schnauzers, I have 2, they don't shed, they go everywhere we do, weekend trips, summer vacation, even when we go out in the evenings, we take them...and speaking of a wonderful lap dog, while I am typing this message Max is laying in my lap. I have miniatures, but if you like bigger dogs, you could go with a standard or giant. They are great dogs!
You know dogsrmylife I heard that about chihuahuas as well. We knew someone who was a severe asthmatic who bought one. She said it really helped lol. Funny thing is when I was growing up we had a chihuahua that had asthma :) I remember getting a training session from the vet on how to use this syringe that we kept in the fridge in case we ever needed to inject her if the asthma attack was too severe....never did need it though. And I have no idea what was in that syringe....

my recomendations would be this..do some research on the non sheding breeds..and read charactistics..typically terrriers are well know for needing a fence...My choice would be a standard poodle..i say standard because you dont like a sharp shrill bark..since all lil dogs have a shrill bark...that is their line of defence most often...You can train them not to, in some cases mind you...but..i love poodles my self..and would love a standard...but i have large breeds already( shepherds) so..I cant go that big..
well i have basset hounds and they are just big sweet lap dogs. they are really laid back and the sweetest little doggies ever. neither one of my bassets are real vocal and when they do bark its more low pitch. this might be a breed you might want to look into. they do shed but mine dont shed alot. and they dont take alot of grooming or exercise. i am partial to bassets though they have stolen my heart. good luck on finding a new baby
