Of course you all knew me and Max were supposed to go to Wisconsin. Well, I am here. Max isn't. I accidentally got the dimensions wrong, I got dimensions for a 747 not an eagle flight. So the crate was "too big" for the plane. Although, when I got on it definitely looked like it would have fit. So anyways, the woman at the check-in desk was really rude. And told us the crate was too big, but told us he could go in cargo in a bigger crate they would provide for a fee. Of course I said, yes anything to get him on. 5 seconds later she "changed her mind" and just said "you can't bring him, i dont have the time to go get someone to bring a crate"etc. I was in tears, i've been so excited tgo bring him and prepared for this trip so much. I cried, but my mom might be bringing him out in a few weeks. In cargo .. is cargo safe???? So Max was falling asleep because he had the sedative already and I was cuddling him and crying. It was so hard to leave him. I have all his stuff in my suitcase.. *tear*. My mom was upset and heartbroken for me too. It's so sad for me to go through right now, I miss him already. My mom said on the way home he cried for me, because he was crying when I left to get on the flight. Then he was so knocked out he fell asleep in the car, lol. I miss him already, and I'm heartbroken he isn't here. But he's probably coming with my mom.
Is cargo safe for a 7lb dog, and should he be sedated slightly down there.. is it too cold? Those of you w/ experience please help :)
Oh honey I am so sorry to hear this. I know how excited you were and you got him all ready for this day. I personally have never shipped any of my dogs, and when we got Mia (my Yorkie mix) we got him from a local breeder so he wasnt shipped. BUT I know that lots of breeders ship their puppies alone, in cargo, with packages. I always seem to hear that it is safe, so Im sure Max would be just fine. Good luck with everything.
So sorry you didn't get to take Max. I do ship with Continental (in cargo), they are air conditioned and won't take a pet if they know that it is sedated. They always look in the crate really well and look them over. They might not ship one if he looked groggy, I don't know. But, you do have to sign a statement saying the pet has not been sedated. I insure mine and all have arrived safely. I have shipped for about 5 years and never had a problem (other than a crate with poop in it from being scared). I think the puppies are sometimes a little scared after the flight-I wonder what they go thru. Maybe you will get Max in a week or so. Hope so. Good luck. I know you miss him. CeCe
oh no that is terrible. The lady didn't have time to go get someone to get a crate and get the dog on board with you. That is probably not in her job description and should have helped you out as much as she could.
Anyways, I have had two pups shipped to me and have found that there was no problems and they arrived safely. They were shipped in cargo. You have to remember though, if it is too hot and cargo is not air conditioned they will not ship the pup, so if your mom is flying too she should get a smaller crate and have max ride with her in the cabin. That would be the best way to get him there for sure, to plan to have him in the cabin under your mom's seat. Sounds like the plane was maybe a little "puddle jumper" and those usually are not ac in the cargo area.
good luck with getting max to you and enjoy WISCONSIN!!! welcome to my state!
Thanks for all your help guys. He would probably be going American Airlines. And its an eagle flight, which is a small plane, so there's no way he could go in a smaller crate. He'll probably go in cargo, I have a week to decide if I want to do all that to him. And could my mom ship him without herself, and my uncle and I pick him up? I missed him so much last night, lol. I have all his stuff with me, his bed, toys, treats, leashes.. everything. It's horrible that the stupid woman showed no emotion and didn't want to help us out. He was so good, he was falling asleep and polite to strangers. He could have sat on my lap if he was allowed, lol.
