I believe in 2 weeks except for accidents. I also use baby shampoo recommended by my vet. It is safe for their eyes and very gentle on their coat and skin.
Recently my 13 week old puppy had 2 accidents in a week in her kennel while I was at work before getting home for lunch and I gave a bath for each one and with the baby shampoo it doesn't strip the natural oil from their hair drying it out.

I have Suave, Herbal Essance and Pantean in my dogs bathroom. I never use dog shampoo on them and have been using human shampoo on my dogs for the last 17 years.
I also remind people to shampoo and condition your coated breeds, such as the lhasa and shih-tzu et al.
I also bathe my dogs when they are dirty, and anyone being put into or kept in show coat is bathed at least once a week. I like to let mine airdry but in the winter they go under the stand dryer for a few hours.
I wash my dogs when they are too dirty to wipe off with a towel. If its once a month or twice a week, whatever. But I use good shampoo & conditioner on them and it doesn't dry out their coat. Actually it seems to help their coat.
