This has been talked about before... but alas, I bring it up again... What tags do you guys have on your dog's collar? I know that some dont' use collars most of the time, but for those of you who do... I have the following: 1) city license tag 2) tag that says her name, address, phone 3) Rabies tag 4) Tag from my SPCA where I got her that said to leave it on so if she ever gets picked up they take her there instead of the city pound. 5) she has a pet therapy tag which I do not use except when we are out doing therapy. AND she is microchipped!
SO... She is obviouslly tagged to the max, which ones do you think are the most important to have on there? I think city tag and her address one. You guys agree? If she were to get out, the city would be the ones picking her up and at least they would know she had a responsible owner and they would then contact me.
I am about to give you the WORLD'S GREATEST INVENTION (IMO anyway!)
It's a "Tag Silencer"....You put this on their collar, and all of the Tags go in here instead of have 4 or 5 around their neck hitting eachother all the time!
I got one for Mia aftre a friend reccomended it a few months ago...And I Love it. And I am pretty sure Mia likes it better, too, than having all the tags around his neck. This way they are in one place.
I have my dogs tattooed. The problem with microchips is there are so many companys who make them and they all have thier own scanners. Not to many of them pick up other chips signals. (this could have changed. i dont know)
I like the tattooes because they are permanent and everyone can see them.
hmm no need to get snappy now. I prefer tattoos because they cant get lost like a collar and tags would and they cant get over looked. My dogs get a registration number tattooed on thier inner thigh, on the inside of thier lip and my kennel initials on the inner part of thier ear.
I live tatooing vs. microchipping for the same reasons shiggs has stated.
Some scanners will only microchip certain chips. Tatoos can (obviously) be seen by the naked eye and looked up that way.
When my aunt got her dog from the pound.. she had an "S" tatooed on her inner thigh... the vet at the shelter puts S on them to state that they are spayed. The only other reason to find out is after you've opened them up and realized it's already been done.
If I had a breed that tended to wander or run off I would get tatooing done, maybe microchipping, I'm not sure. But my dogs never leave my side and just have their collar tags on them.
both my dogs are tattooed, as per CanKC, but you cant read either of them now, I dont know why, my cousins dog was done as a pup and you could always read that orange tat, but tonas has a green one and ruffers is black, neither can be read.
