Lately my neighbors have been complaining about my purebred black lab barking but it isn't my dog there are other dogs around me where i live we have tried to tell them that it isn't our dog and that there is a yellow lab, a terrier mix, golden retreiver, a german sheperd mix, and a black lab and a beagle i don't know what else to do please help me!!!!!!! What should I do?
They are saying that my dog barks for over four hours every time they have already called the cops i' would say three times and if there is another complaint about him they say that they may take him away and i don't want that to happen how could i persuade them that it is not my dog or is there a way to show them that it is not my dog?
I agree, bring it in the house at night. I would do it without them knowing. Maybe then they will realize its not yours barking. There are laws about nuisance barking in most areas. But I believe they have to prove by a recording, etc that it barks continuously for a certain number of hours. Then it is the burden of proof for them to say it is your dog doing it. If yours is inside, then problem solved.
when quinn and i first met, i had harley ( gsd ) and he had beau ( rottie ). beau had gotten into some foxtails. the vet had to open a hole in his thraot and attach a drain tube. he also wore an e-collar. him and harley both were inside dogs. one morning , about 5 o'clock, there was a knock on the door. it was a cop. he said a neighbor had called and complained that our dogs were outside barking non-stop. he said he sat out front for a good 20 minutes and didnt hear a thing. less than a week later, a lady from animal control came .she even saw the drain tube and e-collar, so she knew he couldnt bark. she STILL gave us a warning. ( the whole time she was there the dog accross the street barked non-stop. ) she didnt even go over to their house ! . then she comes a few days later and hands me a ticket. i went to my vet, got a letter from him stating that my dog could not bark in his condition , and they still fined me 100 bucks. so yeah, they can do whatever they want and no they dont need proof. found out the complainer was a neighbor at the other end of the block that had a hatred of rotties. she had even told the animal control officer that she never heard our gsd, just our rottie. its amazing how someone almost an entire block away can tell the difference between a gsd and a rottie bark. people can be totally ludicris at times. grrrr lol
Actually, they can take your dog away if it upsets the neighborhood by barking too much. At least in Canada they can. Keep your dog indoors, find out who's dog is creating trouble and be sure to let the owners know.
I know how you feel though. When I'm at my aunts, we have 2 annoying neighbors who let their dogs bark almost all day. But all we ever hear is a "shut up" from people around the neighborhood lol. Last year one got taken away...thank god, he was a biter too.
Ah we've been through this when we had goldens and frankly, it's BAD. Extremely stressful. The police came told me they'd had a report a week before but when they got here (police station was behind the house behind me!) the dogs werent out nor barking so they didnt stop, the next time they were out, not barking until the officer approached their jennel. It was then that they told me that even if they werent out next time, if they were called, I would get a $50 fine, after one fine is given the fine goes up and there "could" be a hearing to remove the dog. --We also had other dogs in the neighborhood but they were behid stockade fencing so it was assumed. I have no idea how you can prove it isnt your dog, We resorted to a muzzle which did stop the cmplaints, and he'd go through stages where he would bark on it would go for a day or two then he'd be good for a while. They also sell barking collars and one of those sprays citronella when they bark--some swear by it. Good luck, sometimes neighbors can just be total JERKS.
