rottweiler killed a small child
hope this don't give the rottweilers a bad name!

i live in nc. last night on the local news, a small child was attacked and killed by a dog. it was a rottweiler. the dog was pened in with another rottweiler and it dug under the fence. the child 2 years old was running across the yard to another house when the dog got out. the dogs did not belong to the childs family, the neighbors dogs. the dogs owner was out of town. how sad.

A two year old child is dead after authorities say he was mauled to death by a dog. The Greene County Sheriff's office says the two year-old boy was playing outside in his grandmother's yard on Hillindale Drive in Snowhill Tuesday when a neighbor's Rottweiler dug out from its pen and attacked the child.

Greene County Sheriff <removed name>says deputies shot and killed the dog when they arrived on the scene because it was still acting vicious.

The owner of the dog is out of town. Smith says he'll have to talk to the district attorney about any possible charges, but believes it will probably be a civil matter

Brings flshbacks to what happened with my sisters rotti. Roxie was loved and adored as a puppy. My sister and borther in law had "BIG" plans for her. Then she got big, refused to breed, and was never obedidnce trained. By the time Roxie was 3yrs old she found herself chained in the backyard to a 3x3 dog house in a yard that was too small for her. My dad had offered a number of times to take her, but my sister refused. Finally one day Roxie snapped, she broke free from her chained prison and jumped the fence, she immeadiatly attacked a 12yr old boy who was on his skateboard. The poor kid ended up with 67 stitches in his face arms and right leg. I think when this happened the dog bite laws weren't as strickt because Roxie wasn't put down, she just had to be quarantined for 10 days. Now you would think my sister would learn her lesson...nope, after those 10 days were up Roxie went back out onto her chain! Within 2 moths Roxie broke free and attacked another child, this time it was a 6 yr old girl. Instead of allowing it to happen a third time it was the girls father who came over and put Roxi down himself. It wasn't Roxie's fault, she never asked to be cast aside into the back yard, it was my sister's fault.

my two rottweilers bolo and tubbs got out and about twice digging under the fence,we would call them dumb and dumber and cause they were two peas in a pod.never hurt a fly.more than five people saw them on the sidewalk side by side and called the police.four cop cars came to my door ,i didnt know they went for a stroll,i see my dogs in the back of the cop car,the cops were even laughing.thank god i didnt get a fine.i wasnt worried about them hurting anyone,i was worried about the dogs safty and scaring people they both were 150 pounds apiece,gentle giants atleast mine were.

This is why I don't like to see dogs penned/chained for long periods of time.

bolo and tubbs only spent two hours aday alone,one hour in morning one hour around four in afternoon.never chained six feet high fence

I have been wataching my sons dog a rottie Lady she is the most sweetest dog ever she is 2 and the pups she just had are 5 weeks oild yesterday I am keeping 1 Jasper I just hope he is as sweet as Lady Ive had Lady scent July 4 and it will be hard to give her back to my son but he loves her he SAVED her from a bad home.

i think lady looks sweet as deer and im loving the pups nice and chunky.i wouldnt stop playing with them.

I still love the breed no matter what. It wasn't really the dogs fault. The dog was pinned not very good ( I can assume) ans he got out. How sad.

this has not changed my heart for the breed. i fell like it could have benn any dog that have done it. geuss it goes with training and how much time you spend with them.

Many dogs who are tethered all day as you know lunge, pull it wears on their necks an d spines. It is frustrating, especially if they have prey drive. When they finally break loose, "God help whatever is in their vision."

In Connecticut, (I am in Mass0 a dog cannot be tied outside all day)

in the county this happen. they are taking this case to court to see if they can get rottweilers banned in the county. that makes me so mad! they were second on the list for dog attacks in the state of nc. geuss who was first. they have a reported 67 pitt bull attacks in nc. whos to say they were even pitts. and rottwelier attacks were 29. then the german shepard came in thrid with 19 attacks in the past year. these are really all good breeds. i hate due to poor ownership this has come up to try to bann these dogs.

I never blame the dogs for this sort of thing...I blame the owners for not controlling their animals and the parents who fail to supervise their children around dogs.

Same thing for pit bulls. If you have children, don't let them around the dogs...period.
