I have an 8 month old Chihuahua that has recently gained a decent amount of weight. I am in college to become a vet tech so I immediately thought it could be a thyroid problem. He went to work with me last night and we ran a Superchem, CBC and T4. Everything came back perfectly normal! He is currently eating Natural Balance Ultra. I'm wondering if any of you guys have experience which one works best for weight loss, Natural Balance Reduced Calorie or Innova? I am also open to other suggestions. Thanks in advance :)
Natural Balance is a great food and your dog would probably lose weight on it. You could also check into Chicken Soup for Pet Lovers Lite formula. My cats are on the cat lite formula and they've lost a good amount of weight and are now maintaining healthy weights on it.
Weight gain-how much weight gained? What is dog's ideal weight suppose to be? Is it getting exercise? Is it getting lots of treats/snacks?
Not enough info in your post. JMO but putting a puppy on weight management food seems wrong.
We put our recent litter of pups on adult food, switching from puppy food to adult food. We did for health pruposes, Setters are prone to HOD and adult food has less protein than puppy food. High protein contents can contribute to HOD.
