HELP!! This is my first communication and I am pretty desparate. Even my vet doesn't know what to say. Does anyone have a dog that acts as tho' they are going to throw up...gagging motion...and then goes around the house (which right now is rugless) and licks the floor eating dust bunnies and anything else she can find. We spent a small fortune on ER and vet bills as she is truly a "garbage gut" as the last vet called her!!
Mine clean the floor of all food products that hit the dirt, but I have never had a problem like this. Maybe keep her leashed and redirect her to a chew toy when she starts? Crate when you are not watching her? How much exercise does she get? I would think this breed is pretty active. How old is she?
Thanks so much for responding. Gracie was 2 years old September 10th. I know she doesn't get all the exercise she wants but mostly a walk a day for an hour. We've had some real behavior problems with her as far as jumping up on people.....we are STILL trying to cure her of that.
Our vet said syrup and it calms her throat a bit. I do crate her when she starts this gagging licking behavior. We are vigilant with regard to grass as our vet said NONE so if she does throw up it looks like the inside of a vacuum cleaner bag! All grey with dust...yuk.
I have a 6 month old wheaten who does this same thing on occasion. And I agree it is gross when they eat thier own emesis. I often find her just doing the "in and out" thing with her breathing. I asked a vet professional about it and she said it was a common trait with terriers in general and her cairns did it as well. If she continued with the vomiting I would ask another vet for a second opinion. Good Luck
