hi im getting a chihuahua puppy on jan.29 and not sure how to care for her she will only be 4lbs. grown there are no children in home but have grandchildren youngest is 4 the others are teenagers can anyone give me some help?
* a crate * food & water dish * puppy food * puppy approved toys * a blanket for the crate * harness and lead
And i'd be careful around the grandchildren. If the children are small, im sure the puppy is smaller and quite fragile. The smallest nudge or fall could be harmful to the little puppy. And possibly suggest to get the puppy a coat or sweater, something similar to that. I know some people dislike clothes on dogs, but if your handling with a puppy of a small size and short hair they should stay warm as possible when they take their potty breaks outside in cold wether. hope this helps (:
i have a 6 month old pomeranian - chihuahua mix and he is great with my boyfriends niece who is 9 months old. he likes squeeky toys and puppy milk bones. things that would be good to get for your puppy would be: a nice soft bed (that is one piece so they can't rip it apart) a soft fuzzy blanket a crate (to put the bed in) soft chew toys (puppy kong, little teddy bear, ect) very small food and water dishes so the puppy can reach into them i don't recomend a harness they have puppy collars for toy breeds i got one of them because i couldn't find anything small enough cause he was only 1lb 8oz when we got him and only 6 weeks old
I suggested the harness because sometimes you dont want to put collars on puppys right away. Usually harness are more secure and wont snag up a puppy that small. But yea, if you could find a puppy collar that will suit you and your puppy that would be good too.
Please use a harness and not a collar. For these very small breeds can be easily hurt when using a collar. I have had several chi's and would not put a collar on any of them. Petco has the very small harnesses with matching leashes. Thier little tracheas are very fragile, and if they have a collar and it is pulled on it could cause serious damage.
