I have a 1.5 year old lab and I just got another lab puppy. Does anyone have any suggestions on a book, video or website I can read in order to ensure that I can transition the two dogs properly. I am interested in learning how to properly communicate, play time, feeding time, poop time, etc. I have read and seen books on raising one dog, but not on rasing more than one dog.
When I got my 2nd dog, my older one was about 1 yr old too. I just let them do their thing. I never got in between. If they had an argument I let them settle it, and it never got out of hand. (of course if it did I would have stepped in).
The older dog will probably try to show dominace over the pup. The puppy will probably scream - don't worry he's not really hurting the pup. Puppies are dramatic.
you should feed them seperately for a while until the old dog is totally used to the new one being there. Its simply respect the old dog gets to eat his food without the puppy.
Other than that, have fun!! Owning 2 dogs is great.

That is what we did when we got our 2nd Chi. The two would do their thing and we just watch them close. I still feed them seperate but they'll go to each other bowl at times. My husband has had Chi's all of his life so I'm the only one that was new to puppy Chi so I bought Chihuahua's for Dummies but it hasn't helped much. So when you find a book let me know what it is so I can get one.
I applyed to this guy at the website: http://www.goodlabradors.com/tips.html he has books videos everything you would need. He even sends you little tips and tricks with out purchasing them. I have a lab an we use to have a pomeranian but he is gone and i was looking for help training him. Hope it works!
