I took on a 9 week old Bordeaux puppy that hes Osteochondritis Dissecans (OCD) I have no idea what I can do for him as I'm not expereinced with this. I have read that rest can help, but is there anything else I can do?
He is not mine, so the vet is kinda not an option at this point. If and when he is mine I will bring him to the vet's and get what I need or his surgery if needed.
Yesterday morning his leg looked a bit better, but after about 1/2 hour of playing it looked bad again. Is this normal to have good and bad days?
Should it be wrapped or will that make the problem worse?
I have him on a low protein food with add glucosimine.
OCD is where a bone chips (usually from the shoulder) and settles at the elbow joint causing inflamation and bowing leg(s) it is painful. Can be fixed with rest (5 to 10 weeks) where the chip fuses into the joints cartalidge and the leg returns back to normal. Or surgery to remove the chip. Most common in Giant breed dogs that have a growth phase too fast for the pups bones.
I have him as a favour to my sister (whom owns a reputable pet store) and she is trying to get her money back from this breeder, whom fell off the face of the earth. Needless to say the breeder will not be usd again.
Hooch seems to be happy and playing, it gets better with rest, but try keeping a 9 week old puppy from playing!!!
My sister is going to make a vet appointment this week for his 2nd shot and she will get the vet to check his leg as well (just found this out yesterday) and hopefully get what he needs if anything.
Thanx for the site I'll check it out. I don't have experience with this and any info on it helps. As well as any personal experience of what and what not to do.
Crating him might help, also never feed any giant breed puppy food. I have only fed adult food to my DDB's. This was something that I was told by a number of vets. It cuts down on large breed pups growing too fast.
Purina One is what I feed my dogues and they love it. Try this and I hope it works for you.
