My 4yr old malamute sam will continuosly pull at the leash during walks despite trying numerous methods to stop this. Have tried turning around and ending the walk, stopping and sitting until he calms down, constant correction with halte. I have walked sam daily since I got him two years ago and my constant effort never seems to work.... PLEASE HELP.........
malamutes are pullers, after all! But he can still be trained to walk nicely on a leash. Does he listen to you overall? Meaning he knows and listens to other commands? How long are your walks and how much exercise is he getting?
How long do you try one method before you either switch methods or give up and let him pull?
"Always remember that you are absolutely unique. Just like everyone else."
I have used the gentle lead i think it was called.. it goes around the muzzle. The first time i used it within 10 minutes.. No more pulling! It was awesome and I strongle recommend it! I have a saint bernard so with the size of this boy, he needed to learn real quick not to pull!
Please note though, things like correctional collars/leads are bandaid fixes. The dog still needs to be trained if you wish to stop using things like that. They are only things the dogs knows is there because he feels them without even applying pressure, so taking them off lets him know he won't be corrected by them.
