I have a 5 year old very plump pit bull who seems to think she is starving. She jumps on tables, desks, counters and eats all food at any chance she gets. I don't understand this because I buy her good food and there is always ample out for her to eat. Right now her food is Nutro. My other two dogs (Akita, Schnauzer) don't seem to have a problem with this food. Think she is just being spoiled or might there be another problem?
Well, thats how my poodle is, though she is not fat. Does your dog like veggies, perhaps a cut back of kibble and add a good portion of veggies. Mine eat them all the time. You sure your dog does not have lab in it, they are chow hounds.
Whoever said you can't buy happiness, must have never owned a dog!!!!!!!!!!!
I would figure out how much the dog should eat and feed it 2 meals a day. I wouldnt leave the food out. I would also cut back some on the kibble and replace w/green beans or some other veggie she would eat.
I like him a lot better than I like most people. To you he's a dog. TO me he's an adopted son who is short, hairy, walks on all fours and doesn't speak clearly. I have no problem with any of these. <
Dogs are helpless and lack control, as far as their diet goes.
In nature, if they come across food their brain is telling them "oh boy, food. I better eat this all up right now" because dogs of the past never knew when they would come across a meal. They are scavengers and gluttons.
Take away everything but what she needs to survive (which of course should be an excellent quality food). Eat to live, not live to eat. Ban her from areas if she is stealing food. That is unacceptable and you need to correct it.
Treats are ok, but they are called "Treats" for a reason.
We tend to spoil whatever we get our hands on, but an over weight dog they may develop medical issues because of that need to over do it, is not what you are hoping for I'm sure.
