One night, outside wasn't dark yet. I was walking my dog, his name is Boots. He is 6 years old. For his whole life he loves to play with other dogs and cats.. There was 1 strange dog, I think she was pit bull. She jumped on Boots, my dog. She was bite him hard and end up hurt him bad. Boots has lot of bite marks on him. So I took him to vet to take care of Boots. On the next day my aunt bring her 2 dogs. They are Boots' best friends, like a family. They walked to Boots and he started to growl at them then he bite them for no reason. I had to put Boots in bedroom for short time.. I took Boots out all the times but every time Boots see other dogs, he started to growl and bark. He is not himself anymore and can't be around with any dogs at all. He changed lot since the night he was attack by pit bull. How can I help him and teach him? Will he change to be back old Boots or he will never be the same that I knew? What should I do if he keep act like this?
well lots of dogs have this problem. they get bit and then they don't act like themself. I don't really know what to tell you but try to wait it out. and if you have to ask your vet. he/she should know what to do.
now as for the other 2 dogs attacking him after being bitten I don't quite kow what is up with that but try to keep those dogs away from him for a while until he recovers and goes back to being himself again. sometimes these things take time.
he probably was tramatized from this ordeal. I know it's hard that there's nothing really that we can do for our beloved pets but all we can do is confert them and try to make them feel better. it's times like this that make owners and their pets come together and form a real strong connection.
my dog got bit by a large dog because she got to close to my friends dog while he was eating, and she returned to herself in about 3weeks to a month and she is totaly fine but she is terrified of larger dogs.
What a shame, my dog was also attacked by another dog when she was a year old and from that day on she wouldn't tolerate any other dogs near her so i took her to training classes and she did react to the other dogs but the trainer said it is learnt behaviour where they think all dogs are going to attack so it's get you before you get me. He told me to flood her where she is around other dogs as often as possible and they learn to relax, taking her to the classes were a big help and don't make a big deal of it when other dogs are around use the everythings ok attitude. Good luck hope you get it sorted.
When my puppy was 4 months old, my 8 yr. old son was walking her in the yard on a leash and a neighborhood dog came up and attacked her (shepard mix - not a pit). It took a long time for either one of them to get over it, they were both traumatized. I registered her in a puppy training class about 2 months after the attack. She was absolutely petrified for the first 3 sessions, but by the 5th week, she was trying to play with the other dogs. I also let my son go to the classes - and now strange dogs don't bother him either. I think that even older dogs would benefit. There were 2 dogs over 3 years in the class that I took and they both did great. I really hope that it gets better soon.
