Our dog was the same way. We got a kong type toy, put peanut butter in it and got his bed ready, "plumped it up" put the kong near it. He was laying down fighting to get the peanut butter out for a long time. Stopped shaking. Hope it works for you

i have had probably 3 or 4 dogs with the same problem. all we have ever done was get out as many toys as possible and just keep them busy. but when the storms started in the night if the storm didn't wake me the dogs did when the jumped up on my bed and sat on me. when that happened i just told them it would be ok and let them sleep beside me. Mine were all german sheperds. can i ask what breed of dog it is?
A way that's worked for me is to have a big bag of low calorie treats my dogs love, and just give a reat every time you hear thunder or the entire time it's raining. Soon the dog decides that the storm is great because it makes treats appear.
We usually put them in a crate away from windows and doors, give them lots to play with and treats. Put a cover over the crate and they are usually fine. They seem to feel safe in the crate. I had dogs in for boarding and the owner swore they were terrified of storms. One day they were all out in the big yard when a storm started. They have acess to go into the shed row via a doggy door to get out of the storm. I looked out at them, and they were acting perfectly normal just standing out enjoying the summer rain. And the thunder had no effect on them either. I think it was more the reaction of the owner to the storms. Not saying that is your issue, but do not coddle the dogs.
