Ok, I was given this puppy by some people I didn't know. He's 1/2 dotson 1/2 chihuahua. (actually a really cute dog) He has some spots where his fur gets really thin and is really dry in these spots. No ooozing or pus or any of that. Just something that appears to be excema like. Know what it is?? And will my son catch the funk before I can get the dog to the vet on tuesday?
It would be wise to get a skin scraping. Could be flea dermatitus. Get the dog on advantage or frontline. One flea can cause all that damage. But get a skin scraping to rule out mange or ring worm. Ring worm is a fungus not a worm. can be transfered to humans. If its mange, you need to find out what kind, if demodetic(sp) you are ok. If sarcoptic, you can get it.
Whoever said you can't buy happiness, must have never owned a dog!!!!!!!!!!!
my parents had a little of beagles born about a year and a half ago... and 2 out of the litter for some reason had what u described... they went to the vet and the vet did skin scraping and blood tests ... everything... but all tests came back fine... the vet put them on steroids and all was well... the hair grew back now every now and then one gets a thin spot or two but the steroids was the cure.... they never did get an answer of what it was...i would still take the dog to the vet it could be different or u may have a better vet... lol
