I am beside myself about this NB Brown Rice and Venison recall. Mason ate the dry food, canned food, and biscuits. Thankfully, he is fine, but now I don't know what food I should feed him. He was doing so well on the NB.
Someone suggested Purina Pro Plan Selects Lamb and Brown Rice formula. I had some samples of Fromm's Duck and Sweet Potato, but he didn't like it.
I'm very reluctant to try a different NB formula now. Plus, his vet told me that I'm going to have to do the switch cold turkey, not transition.
I returned the Blue Buffalo after reading the link on Wysong.com. Then I was reading about Menadione (Vitamin K Supplement) that is in some dog food that is dangerous to them.
Definatly avoid Purina if he has allergies. The Wellness Fish & Sweet Potato is a good formula for dogs with allergies. However you won't find that at Petsmart. Buy a small bag of whatever you get and see how he does on it. The first few days he will probably have loose stool because you are switching cold turkey, but he will be fine.

Does he seem okay, or do you know he's okay. If he's been eating the NB, I'd go for blood and urine testing to make sure. I know a handful of dogs that actually have elevated messed up levels and urine crystals.
He seems okay (active, playful, etc). I did call his vet as soon as I found out about Natural Balance and she said that keep an eye on him and if he suddenly becomes lethargic then bring him in. I might end up taking your advice though and get him tested anyway. Rather be safe than sorry.
I switched my dog to Timberwolf Organics a few months ago. He is doing very well on it, and it is appealing enough that he will eat the dry kibble without any wet food or gravy mixed in (very rare). His eyes do not run as much, and he no longer gets brownish-orange tear stains.
He is on the Wild & Natural formula right now, which is also grain-free. For two weeks he was eating their pheasant & herb wet food as he had a few teeth pulled. I just ordered another bag of the wild & natural, plus a bag of their Chicken & Herbs and a bag of Ocean Blue. I got the sample pack from them when I ordered the first bag/cans of food, and have already "taste tested" those two with good results. I plan to cycle him through some of their various formulas to keep life interesting.
