Hello. I am a new member to this forum as well a a new puppy owner. My shipoos name is Cali. She is 12 weeks old. I was a little nervous about purchasing a new pup, but when I seen her, I had to bring her home... even though I havent the first idea on raising a dog, but I am slowly learning. My kids are 4 and 2 years old and they just love her! I truly feel that she was the perfect match for our family :) I was on another discussion forum, but the people on there were really mean and rude about new puppy owners. I hope to have found a place that I can educate myself :)
Caliprincess... Welcome to TP. Most everyone on here is really nice. You will find a few that can seem mean, but I think they really are trying to help. Everyone here loves dogs of all kinds but be forewarned not everyone loves breeders that do mix breeding. As a new puppy owner you have a long road ahead of you with potty training and obedience training. Be sure to read everything you can on both the Shih Tzu and the Poodle. With you little baby being a mix breed it will be hard to tell which side it will get the most traits from. I can tell you what you need to know on the Shih Tzu side but I know little on the Poodle side. Good luck with your baby and I hope you find what you are looking for on this site.
Life isn't like a box of chocolates . . it's more like a jar of jalapenos.
Caliprincess, unfortunately.. be prepared to be flamed by some of the members of the board. Simply because you said the word "purchase" and "Shihpoo" in the same sentence. Be prepared for this.. for example.
"You bought a designer dog? Shame on you, you're a horrible person. Keep supporting the back yard breeders." Things of this sort, some of the board members have too much time on their hands.
Some will make their point far more politely. The point being that you should never purchase a "designer dog" when there are millions that already need homes. I made this same mistake with my first dog, lining the pockets of BYB's.. then I found this site, and educated myself. Though I wouldn't give my Shihtzu/toy poodle up for the world, and I'm sure you wouldn't either. At least the dog has a wonderful and loving home, right? <3
I'm glad to see a fellow owner, and would LOVE to see a picture. Mine is 15 months old and her name is Duchess, absolutely the smartest dog I've ever known. Last weigh she was 6.8lbs. :)
