Hi does anyone know of the symptoms after spayin ur lil puppy. My lil puppy 6days ago was spayed but recently there is swelling and its pretty hard where they had cut her open. Is there any reason to be concerned or is it alrite n gone down.
Warning signs are fever over 102, redness tenderness. You should be able to see the scar. Call your vet back and ask the tech if everything's ok, and let the tech instruct you if they think something's wrong. Probably nothing but better safe than sorry...
how active has your puppy been since coming home ? many times animals will develop what is called a seroma after they are spayed. it is usually due to overactivity. a seroma is a fluid filled lump and is usually not hard. it can be firm but is usually somewhat squishy. sometimes if they get too large, physically draining them is one option to take care of it, hot packing also works.
a hard lump may be an indication of a suture reaction. the material used to close the abdomen can be reactive in some animals and that reaction presents itself as a hard lump right along the suture area. generally there is nothing that can be done to treat the hard lump. you just have to wait for the body to break down the suture material and absorb it. depending on the suture material used, that process can take up to 2 months.
if there is any leakage from the area, or if it is red and irritated looking, you may want to have the vet check it. if your pup is otherwise acting totally normal, and doesnt seem to be sensitive in that area, you can wait until the sutures come out to ask the vet about it.
Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.
