I just wanted to introduce myself to the board. I live down near Houston, TX and am the proud parent of a Guyana Red Tailed Boa. If anyone has ever seen these snakes, they are incredibly gorgeous! The Red Tailed Boa is actually a subspecies of the Boa Constrictor, and the Guyana Red Tailed Boa is a local variation of that subspecies. Kind of a sub-subspecies. lol He is about a year old and only a foot in length. I weighed him the other day and he is about 10 pounds. I have a picture of my husband holding him if anyone is interested. He is my baby, very friendly. He doesn't lik the flash of the camera, so I didn't get his head. He has a gorgeous enclosure, big enough that I can actually get in and move around! lol By the way, his name is Jacob.
Thanks everyone. Jacob is my baby. He will mature anywhere from 6-13 feet long. Jacob's species is known for its large size and long lifespan. I've heard that some can live to 40 years old! Although the oldest one I personally knew of was around 20. I feed him well, so he will probably get quite big. Thankfully I already have a big cage for him. I'm also considering getting a dog.
