I have a 20+ year old cat who has had mega colon for 10 years or so. He had surgery about 4 years ago to remove most of the stretched colon leaving him with just a small section of colon. This should have corrected the problem but it didn't. He still becomes constipated and has to be anesthetized and cleaned out. This has been going on for 10 years. It is hard on the cat, and very expensive. It used to happen maybe 2 or 3 times a year, but this past year he has had to be cleaned out about every six weeks. He is on a special diet, I give hime vetasyl, laxatone, laculose and cipriside. He is healthy otherwise but he has been losing weight. Has anyone had this problem and has any helpful tips on how to keep him from getting constipated? Also, it is getting to the point where it is time to let him go. I would like to do it at home but there are no vets around my area who will do that. Any ideas about that?
I'm sorry about your kitty. It sounds like you took very good care of him. I'm now thinking of the cat and the pain that comes with this. Some times we have to do the best for our loved ones when there is pain involved. 20+ years is a very long life for your cat. I do not have any advice to give, I'm sorry about that, just hope that best goes for you and your kitty.
