hey i have a shih tzu puppy who is now almost 5 months old. By almost 3 1/2 months she was fully trained, and by trained I mean never going anywhere but on the newspapers in her play pen. We'd let her run around and if she had to go she'd go in her play pen, do her business and run out. Now all of a sudden she goes everywhere but in her play pen, and even now we walk her outside and she goes there too. She recently started losing all her baby teeth- her all bottom incisors r missing. Could this be a cause for her abnormal behavior? She's also been very nutty and crazier than normal
I think maybe that could be the reason. Have there been any new changes in he life? A move or any thing stressful? I wonder if she has a litte infection. I would take her to the vet,,Just to be safe. Then I would re-start her potty traing. All most like a frefresher course. That might work. Try to get her smaller meals also and at the same time everyday. then give her a good walk. I think that should help. Maybe you could help me. Have you ever heard of a Mini schnauzer who wont bark? Mine can hear because she comes when called and she has barked but only twice. Any suggestions would help.
This is Holly"s Mama. I am proud Owner of a new Mini Schnauzer. She never Barks. Not once. Why? Any answers will be helpful.
Its a good thing that she is going outside. Its not that great of an idea to train a dog to go potty inside a house, they don't really know the difference. I would suggest training her to go to the door to be let our and only allowing her to pee outside.
Loosing teeth would most likely just call for more nipping, chewing on people, etc. because her mouth hurts. She is testing your boundaries, and seeing how far she can push you. Act like you're back to day one and work on "reteaching" her everything. Most puppies will regress until they hit about a year and a half, you just have to start back at square one and soon they realize that hey.. what they're doing is bad and they know better.
Does she sleep in her pen as well? I believe a dog will NOT use the restroom where he/she sleeps. So she may have learned that's where she sleeps so she doesn't want to soil it! Also do you have a doggy door? I had a previous dog who I found it very hard to potty train and lives with my mother who still sometimes has accidents. However I just bought a puppy who I was able to potty train in 4 days with a doggy door!
