Please my dachshund is urinating on himself. All I say is "want to go outside?" or "good boy come hear" it's crazy positive words are being said and he wets all over himself for totally no reason. Other wise this is the most perfect dog in the world, he did no wrong until a month ago out of no where. help what can I do to stop this. joanh42
I agree with flip...My Doxie would do the same thing ALL the time...She is getting MUCH better, once in a while she still does it, but for the most part she has grown out of it...Give your little guy time, hopefully this stage will pass soon....
It sounds more like excited urination. Has the dog gone to the bathroom recently before they have done it?
Kiba would do this in her crate when I would get home because she was so happy to see me, and she had to go potty. I'd have to come home, and stomp around and pretend I was angry, not talk to her and take her outside. It worked though!! Now sometimes when I get home (she's not crated anymore) she'll just stay in the same spot she was in wagging her tail like crazy. LOL.
Use simple words, in an unexcited voice. Then when he is outside go crazy with praise and calling him a good boy, or whatever. You can try one of those leashes that look kinda like a lasso (used in agility or conformation) so you can just slide it over his head and not the one on one contact of putting on his leash, which would probably cause him to urinate as well.
Yes google either of those terms, submissive or excited urination and you will get info and tips on how to stop it. Its common in certain breeds and sometimes there is nothing you can do to stop it but avoid the situations that causes it. It is common with my eskies and the way i explain it to people that are new to the breed is "They worship you, wouldn't you wet yourself if you saw god?" He obviously adores you and is very excited to see you and have you talking to him. Its a pain in the butt i know :(
