Avoid anything with wheat/gluten in it. That is much easier than it sounds, because it is in almost everything. It is like going on an Atkins Diet to the extreme. When my mom googled it, she came up with a ton of stuff and nutritional information.
there is an Association csaceliacs.org there is a support page celiac.com this will help you find products glutenfree.com Every thing is imparative to a gluten free diet...the risk of cancer and immune problems all are reduce with the gluten free diet. Stay strong and god bless
it was on the discovery channel, mystery diagnosis. This woman had been told that it wasn't herditry, but when she had her 3rd child he was having some medical problems. all the dr told her it was seizures and they wanted to put him on some very strong meds. she didn't want to do that as he was only like 3, so she got another dr to look at him. come to find out it is herditry, and that is what her son has.
the villi in your intestines (which look like little fingers) 'wave' around. they move food around & take out nutrients. in celliac's disease, the villi are very short & can't process gluten, so that's why you get problems. it's very common in third world countries.
my hubby has it too. It's not a big deal as long as you eat properly. NO GLUTEN whatsoever and it's in everything. That's the hardest part. You literally have to cut out most everything. It's in liquor, ice cream, pizza, bread, pasta everything. Many many stores and health food stores now have "gluten free" areas and that's where you shop. you can pm me too
Sorry this is late, the doc. put me on a gluten free diet when they suspected Sprue. Turned out not to be, but I was on gluten free for almost 6 months.
The biggest help to me was the health food stores and markets. They carry a variety of flours, non wheat and recipes to convert them so you can bake with them. They are also very very helpful with questions, books, etc. Amazon.com has tons of recipes, books, q & A books. etc. Right now you are exhausted, I know, your strength will come back. Today it is a lot easier because of the awareness of people and the Organic foods that are available. God Bless you, if I come upon any other info. I will pass it on.
