Hi! My doofus son let his flea protection lapse and his lab had 6 puppies that will be a week old on Sunday. They and Dixie-mama dog have fleas bad. What would be safe to use on the puppies, dil has been bathing them in Dawn dishwashing liquid and it has helped. Thinking of using Revolution on Dixie. What would be safe for all of them? Thanks, Susie
I really don't think letting the flea protection lapse will cause the dog to have puppies.
I really think it is the responsibility of the parents unless your son is 18 to take care of the dogs and have her spayed.
You need to take them to the vet and follow their advice.
Or you can treat the mom with a flea bath, wash the bedding, fog the house or barn. Where ever the dog is at. The pups you can flea bath them with a shampoo for pups. I would call your vet and then also have the mom fixed. IMO Or did I say that???
How old are the puppies? Most flea shampoos aren't safe until the puppies are 12 weeks old. Check the bottle though, they do vary. Frontline is safe on 8 week old pups. I'm not sure about Revolution for the mom. I can't remember if its safe for nursing moms. Check the label. You can use a pill called Capstar. It won't stay in her system but 24 hours, but it works quick and is very safe. You can give it every 24 hours if needed. You can use it on the puppies too if they are over 2 lbs. That would be my best bet.
